Looks like the first domino has fallen. It was expected I guess... Who next to go to the Knicks now? I like the move, may have overpaid a tad due to desperation, but i still like it.

Parker would be a great next move, and if they could somehow move Curry in a deal for him they're going to be in good shape.

We might even have the pleasure of crushing them in the playoffs next season.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
The don't have much of a need for Lee now. They need a starting center with size and a PG. Or maybe they don't? Not sure how it would pan out with Amare & Lee on the floor at the same time.

did you see the quote from Donny Walsh?!?!

essentially, we signed Amare as he was the only player that showed interest in our organization.....is that a philosophy that leads to championships???

We'll, Beatlejuice stated publicly he always wanted to be a Knick, so......we had to.

Amare is a great piece, but D and rebounding wins, and he plays nearly NO D, and his rebounding numbers in the playoffs, particularly against LA were atrocious.     He'll have some monster games, poster dunks, and lead the team, but unless they keep D-Lee and sign one of the big boys (and get some defenders), this move is positive for the Celtics in terms of Eastern Conference competition.    Keep eating up that cap room Knicks!!!!

A parker trade would be pretty good for them, could that also lead the spurs to getting rid of duncan or ginobli for younger pieces? It doesnt seem like that team can compete any more.

Well the Knicks will be able to put some butts in the seats at MSG. They have have Amare. KG can still have his way with him.

Yeah, solid move by NYK.  They are now assured not to come away empty handed this summer which I'm sure was a fear keeping Walsh and others up at night.  Also, having Amare in place could possibly lure another FA there.  Also, they have a coach in place that will maximize Amare's abilities.

I just realized that since Amare is a Knick now we're going to see him a lot now.

Terrible move, IMHO.  Lee brings as much or more to the table as Amare (less explosive & prolific, more efficient, better rebounder + passer, comparable defender, less injury risk)  and he'd probably cost 25-35% less.  A classic case of overvaluing reputation and scoring ability.

And it would be disastrous to now resign Lee and lock up so much dinero in two below-average defensive 4s.

And the West just got that much easier for the Lakers...  >:(

Terrible signing so far. If it brings LeBron to NY it will be a success, but until then (and it's unlikely that LeBron will sign in NY anyway)...

And to think that Amare was quoted, like, two months ago, saying the only thing that mattered to him was "winning" and that he would make his decision this summer according to this sole criteria. Yeah, Amare, I guess the Knicks have proven over the past 3 years (and even more, but let's keep it recent) that all they do is win a lot of games, great choice man!  ::)

Plus, it's foolish in my opinion to sign Amare to a max deal when you could basically get the same production (and even more production in terms of rebounding) by re-signing David Lee for a lower price. Sure, Lee's name isn't as attractive as Amare's but still, Lee is as good as a scorer as Amare and a better rebounder. And Lee isn't injury prone.

So, yeah, I think it's a terrible signing. It's a terrible gamble to sign Amare for 5 years when he has a history of shaky knees and various injuries. He plays no D, has questionable heart and mentality... and he is overrated.

I wouldn't be surprised at all (in fact, I expect it) to see Stoudemire's production drop off dramatically now that he won't have Nash to create him easy scoring opportunities. Remember Shawn Marion post-Nash? Not pretty...

I'm just gonna quote what you said Drucci TP. If they do somehow get Tony Parker I think it will be a productive offseason for them.

If Amare is overrated then David Lee is fools gold at this point. What has he proven really? He put up great numbers on a terrible team. Nate Robinson AVG. 17 PPG on that Knick team and could barely get off the bench here in Boston... So yeah I disagree, Amare is a culture changer. Him and Nash just led the Suns to the Western Conference Finals.

New York isn't finished yet and they just took a giant step in the right direction. Once they land Parker (which i expect they will) and under D'Antoni's system, Amare will put up monster numbers next season.
