I like it because this pretty much means we won't see Lebron in a Knicks uniform and while the Knick may be better, Amare won't put up all-star numbers without Nash. He'll prove to be overpaid by year one.

What chips do the Knicks have in order to get Parker? I don't think San Antonio is just going to let him walk. I think Amare was publicly panning for him to come but I don't see it happening.

Terrible signing so far. If it brings LeBron to NY it will be a success, but until then (and it's unlikely that LeBron will sign in NY anyway)...

And to think that Amare was quoted, like, two months ago, saying the only thing that mattered to him was "winning" and that he would make his decision this summer according to this sole criteria. Yeah, Amare, I guess the Knicks have proven over the past 3 years (and even more, but let's keep it recent) that all they do is win a lot of games, great choice man!  ::)

Plus, it's foolish in my opinion to sign Amare to a max deal when you could basically get the same production (and even more production in terms of rebounding) by re-signing David Lee for a lower price. Sure, Lee's name isn't as attractive as Amare's but still, Lee is as good as a scorer as Amare and a better rebounder. And Lee isn't injury prone.

So, yeah, I think it's a terrible signing. It's a terrible gamble to sign Amare for 5 years when he has a history of shaky knees and various injuries. He plays no D, has questionable heart and mentality... and he is overrated.

I wouldn't be surprised at all (in fact, I expect it) to see Stoudemire's production drop off dramatically now that he won't have Nash to create him easy scoring opportunities. Remember Shawn Marion post-Nash? Not pretty...

I don't think at all that Amare is worth max money and now becomes terribly overpaid, but I did say it was a solid move by NYK above and I say it for this reason.  Let's consider an alternative.  NYK don't offer Amare this, they don't get one of the big FA's, and Amare signs elsewhere.  All the decent fall back options (JJ, Gay, Pierce, Dirk) have already committed elsewhere.  They could come out completely empty handed.  Is this a better off situation for NYK?  They have been horrible for 3 years awaiting this promised summer.  I think they NEED something.  They now got their something and it certainly increases the possibility that LeBron joins, even if it is a small possibility.

- David Lee sign and trade.
- Eddie Curry through a 3 way.
- Gallinari, Chandler and Curry <-- least likely

With the emergence of George Hill, The Spurs are big on moving Parker right now. So Chandler becomes an economical replacement for Jefferson and Lee slips right into the starting 5 next to Timmy. But knowing Donny's style, I think the Knicks reject that trade. Walsh is going to do everything in his power to replace Curry with Parker.

You think with a third team involved Mr. Walsh can pull a move like that off?

I would never pay a max contract to a player who cannot play at a high level at both ends of the court.

I agree.  People love to say offense wins games and defense wins championships, but they tend to ignore that when dishing out contracts.  And assuming a miracle doesn't happen and LeBron doesn't go to NY, what the heck is really the point of this for NY?  I suppose trying to sell tickets next year.  But if I'm a Knick fan, I have to be disappointed.  Amare couldn't win it all with a much better team in Phoenix.  Even with another star added to the Knicks, they're likely no more than a first or second round playoff team for the foreseeable future.

Amare is a one of those superstars that will always put up big numbers but will never win anything. The NBA is always full of These kind of players

Both the Celtics and Lakers brought in guys with max contracts that "didn't play defense" how'd that work out?

I just realized that since Amare is a Knick now we're going to see him a lot now.

And the West just got that much easier for the Lakers...  >:(

Ehh, I watched that series. I don't think the Lakers would have problems with the Suns, even with Amare still there.

They did have problems with the Suns. Phoenix almost took game 5.

I agree, they gave them problems, but c'mon...ultimately I think the Lakers would've won that series.

The worst part about this signing is that it gives more potential for Lebron to sign there.  And the knicks are the ONE team I don't want him to sign...because contrary to popular belief, NYC is NOT the center of the universe.  And Lebron signing there will only make the residents of the big apple's heads bigger than they already are.

We'll never know.

At least Bronnie would be able to wear his Yankees cap without being called a bandwagoner  ;)

Agreed -- Phoenix was not a threat to LA
