  • You know my methods, Watson.
If I was him and I just got a guaranteed contract, I'd hide out in Turkey until training camp starts.  No sense messing up a good thing!  ;)

We are all cynical and sarcastic here about this move and with good reason based on past scenarios. This is quite possibly an 'I got a feeling about this guy' move by Danny Ainge. If he pans out at all, we will all be on the band wagon. If he doesnt, we will all say 'I told you so'.

Still, this a GM call. I just gotta believe that Danny Ainge sees something worthwhile in order to give the guy a contract this early in the off-season.

If he doesnt, we will all say 'I told you so'.

You think so?  Over a $450k, one year contract given to the 15th man on the roster?

To me, this is the equivalent of the Tony Gaffney and Oliver LaFayette deals.  If it works out, perfect.  If it doesn't, it's not really going to matter.

Agreed it doesnt matter to the bigger picture if it doesnt work. So why the complaints and negative remarks by some folks about the signing as if it were a waste of time? They are the posters I am attempting to adress.

The grumbling probably stems from any combination of being a cber, wanting ainge to do SOMETHING this week, irritation over not getting lebron, Wade, lee, amare, et al,

I wouldn't even fret over erdem or the posts about him. If he beats would Williams for a spot the celtics win. If he is Greg kite the second, no big loss in the road to #18.

He is a legit 7-footer who is athletic and has not reached his potential. For a team who is lacking in the frontcourt this signing seems smart to me. I am not saying he will pan out, I'm just saying considering our lack of depth at the center position, Danny could do worse.

I heard from a friend in Turkey that he has a lot of upside.  What he needs to improve is consistency.  Also, he needs to go to the gym more to bulk up like Dwight Hawards.

Dwight doesn't bulk up in the gym  ;)

I'd take Greg Kite II.  I'd call that a win.  Kite was a pretty valuable bench player.

TP for the Greg Kite love.  Kite was important in the playoffs against Kareem, allowing 6 very hard fouls and very physical play intended to wear him down.  He stepped right in there, too, and didn't back down against LA's big names.  He was good enough that he could play without being a problem in some other way--a useful 3rd center.

Ainge must be serious about this guy. I will take that as a good sign of Danny thinking erden can play a role for the celtics.
