  • Rondo = Good
Probably the best case scenario is that he becomes a Fabricio Oberto or a Dan Gadzuric or something.

Which wouldn't be so bad, but those guys are end of the bench players as it is, and there's no guarantee Erden will ever be as good as they are.

I am from TURKEYand ı ve been watchin this guy for years..he sgot potential but coach tanjevic killed his last 2 years because tanjevic loves catch and shoot type of games.he is a starter but his team has  5 national team centers(3 are nba players inc. semih) so with the type of game his team plays his stats are not impressive .he is there with a special permission I think cause he ll take part with turkish team in the world cup..he wont be an nba star but he is worth to have a look at..first of all he has a huge wingspan and runs the floor very very well..he is a good athlete but so emotional like big baby he has ups and downs in the game..had some great games with natinal team..best of one ı remember is a game against spains gasol in the world finals.he plays the pick and roll well..cause tanjevic uses him at the top for screens his rebounding stats are not good enough but can do better...has to put some weight on..think he will have a chance in NBA but should be solid not emotional

FARUKONEL:

Thanks for the insight and information. I really hope the Celtics give him a close look, and that he plays well in summer league. C's need a couple big bodies, especially for rebounding, and I think this kid has potential. Welcome to CelticsBlog. =)

Boston Celtics and Semih Erden reach an agreement

Samih Erden will play next season for the Boston Celtics. The 23-year-old Turkish center has reached to an agreement with the NBA franchise to a one-year contract, with an option for an extra year, earning the minimum salary during the first season. Erden averaged 8.2 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in the last TBL for Fenerbahce.

Thank you for the insight Farukonel. Welcome.

I agree some weight and muscle would be necessary. His emotion is just maturity and competitive spirit I am sure. These are normal conditions for young players coming into the NBA and are usually able to be fixed with time, work and patience.

I would be extremely happy if he could give us a few (10) mpg as a weak side shot blocker on the secnd unit with Baby. Obviously not ready to body up Dwight Howard, but with a little work he can be productive.

Just imagine those two as our bench depth? Scary isnt it? We need a couple of bigs. Shaq and Bad Brad would round out the bench. How about Francisco Elson?

Perk was a third string center at one time.  Maybe this guy can play.  He is still pretty young and he did put up resepectable numbers for the Euro leagues.

Shoulda waited till after the summer league. If one of the other two talked about centers out play him, it won't look good.

Definitely not an intelligent move. It doesn't seem Danny to pull the trigger like this, without comparing the guy with some competition. I still think Art or even Kravtsov will look better than this guy. Let's hope the source isn't reliable.

If this is true:

He probably didn't want to risk playing in the summer league without a guaranteed contract first...

Where is Fran Fraschilla when you need him?

Nobdy EVER needs Fran Fraschilla.  That jerk set my New Mexico Lobos program back about 6 years with his blowing up the team and subsequent poor recruiting and horrible coaching.  We are only now, about 12 years later and under Steve Alford, back to where we were before he came.  Why'd you have to bring HIS name up?  ;)

anyone looks good in highlight packages. I could make a video package of Scal highlights and you'd think he was an all-star.

just saying, don't take it too seriously. But that would be great for us if you're right.

You're crazy.  Take a look at this highlight.  That's all you need to see. Guy's a future All-star!  ;)

I agree it seems strange to sign him right now.  I do think we're gonna see Ainge giving out those minimum contracts (about $500K) to fill out the roster, but why not wait until the bigger pieces are in place?

If it's a minimum contract does it matter?  Even if Pierce and Ray don't sign and we waive Sheed there would still be a cap hold on the team for a minimum salary.  I don't think they would hesitate waiving him if there is someone else clearly better.  It wouldn't impact the cap that much.

I presume he held out for it before agreeing to come over for SL.  Sounds like he even missed the first day of practice down there yesterday.  Good job by his agent.
