I think Rondo is too smart to blow his money. He seems like he'd be a miser to me.

He also strikes me as having a very large brain inside that noggin. Based on his interviews and the way he conducts himself and that he challenges Ray, Pierce and KG...I think the kid is a highly intelligent person.

I think Rondo got a good deal. An all star PG who can't shoot shouldn't be making more than 11 million per year.

Heck, I don't think any PG is worth the max. Magic Johnson would have been the only exception because of his size.

Size and defense win championships.
Isiah Thomas?

Yes, I think he may have gotten a better deal on the open market. However, he's a smallish point guard, who, while he can "score", can't really be counted on to "the scorer" for your team.

I really see Rondo more as a 3rd wheel. You give him a KG and a Pierce, or a Durant and a Joe Johnson, he will make them fly.

He's a guy that makes other people alot better and if he could shoot like Chris Paul, you give him the max in a heart beat.

Right now, if I had cap and Rondo were a free agent, I'd be looking to add LeBron or Wade for max and Rondo shy of max.

Almost every max contract is given to guys who carry the offensive load of your team...

I'm saying he isn't dominant, he absolutely is. But without big time scorers around him to feed? I'm not so sure.

I think he got a good deal now. I also think he probably said "Yeah I might have gotten more this summer, but I like my situation with the Boston Three party and my max day will come.

I think he made a very calculated decision.

Supposedly a math wiz.

Most genius/prodigies come as either math or musical whizzes, which makes sense as music is very mathematical.

I'm not syaing Rondo is a genius, but it doesn't suprise me that he's a math whiz. He's very sharp, you can almost seeing the wheels turning in his head when he's being interviewed, alot of activity going on in that melon.

Rondo probably has a mathematical chart of where he expects his career earning to go, what the arc is, the apex, how much he will make, how much he will end up with after taxes and how much it will grow based on his investments.

Right now he's fine with the security, situation and the fact he'll turn that $55 mill into $120 Ml anyway...

Rondo got a good eal, Ainge made a nice salary read on the reality of who Rondo is at this point.

not who he is, but who he was

you're telling me in the open market this summer, he doesn't get a max deal from someone? If Rudy Gay and Joe Johnson get what they got, Rondo is a max guy...we got a steal

Yeah in the current market, surely someone would pay him the max... NY? and then that team would stink. Rondo plus a Joe Johnson and garbage equals 30 wins.

Hey we saved some other team from themselves then.  ;D

Stockton never won a title. Thomas and Cousy needed a killer defensive front court (and wings).

Stockton could shoot at all ranges. Thomas could shoot mid range. Cousy played in a different era and would not play as well in today's era.

I wouldn't pay any of those PGs the max, if I were budgeting for a true title contender. I'd settle in at maybe 15 million per year as a cap. I certainly wouldn't enter the 17-20 million per year zone.

Here is a greater illustration of my financial thought process.

I'd take a Parker/Billups (11 million) and a Duncan/Dirk/Shaq (18 million +) over a Chris Paul/Deron Williams (17 million) and Chandler/Odom/Millsap/Al Jefferson/etc. (11 million) any day.

Or plug in any other Max vs quasi max big and small.

Jason Kidd in his prime came the closest to being worth the max. the guy was a beat on both ends and had the size of a 2-guard. ...Yeah I would have maxed out Kidd.

1-year ago Rondo had two scenarios:

1) Sign for a guaranteed $55million that if not blown frivolously will guarantee him set financially free for life, or

2) Play 2009-2010 with a rookie contract either get max money this offseason, which would also set him financially for life, or risk getting injured and not get nearly as much $$.

He drastically limited his risk and is now in a position to be live out his late 30's and the rest of his life in financial bliss.

If Rondo was able to consistently knock down jumpshots, he'd have a bigger deal....plain and simple.

I dont feel bad for him getting $11 mil.,,because what other player in the league is making that much who can't shoot?

If Rondo had a decent jumper, I guarantee he would have had a bigger contract.

No player wins a title singlehandedly. Thomas was the best player on a team that went to the finals 3 times and won twice. That's worth a max salary. What would you do, pay him less than Laimbeer or Edwards because they were taller than him?
