Breaking News: Wolves agree to 3 year, $13 mil deal with 2008 2nd round pick Nikola Pekovic.

Pekovic averaged 14.8 ppg and 3.5 rpg in 23 minutes per game for Panathinikos in Euroleague play last season.

One league source said that had Pekovic been in this year's draft he would have been a top-10 pick. "He's one of the most dominant big men in Europe right now and I think he can have an immediate impact in the NBA," said the source.

Pekovic reduces Wolves cap space to under $10 million. Don't tell Rudy Gay.

There was a report (Star Tribune?) saying that the Wolves were going to try and use Big Al as bait in a sign and trade to land Rudy Gay.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Wonder what the Vegas odds on this being the first signing were?

Hm. On talent alone I prefer Jefferson who'd immediately become the Grizzlies' best big. But what do you think of Marc Gasol, Jefferson, Randolph and Thabeet?

For as much as we mock their front office, it seems like they made a pretty good second round pick in 2008....

That would be the front office that is no longer there?

I guess this was Mchale's pick? I was saying everyone has jumped all over them for every move for the last 10 years (extending into the new ownership group). We should probably give them credit if they have gotten a quality NBA big man with a second round pick. From the sounds of that contract it seems they are pretty high on him. If he pans out credit is due. God knows we have given a lot of credit to Danny for gomes and bbd out of the second round.

They made some good moves.

They made one of the biggest boneheaded moves of all time (the owners deal with Joe Smith)

It really killed the team with the number of draft picks lost.

I would prefer to have Rudy Gay than Big Al. I think Gay has more potential especially on the defensive end of the floor.

But I would much rather have Big Al than give Zach Randolph a long term extension + Big Al would be the best player Memphis are likely to be offered in a sign and trade for Gay.

  • Rondo = Good
So looks like the T-Wolves are planning to have a very pale and very multi-talented front line next season:

K-Love, Pekovic, and Darko.  With Oleksy Pecherov off the bench!

Just wait till Rubio finally shows up....

I hope Big Al can get himself to a team that actually has a shot of winning before he's old.

Nice player but... 13mil/3years for an European, second round rookie?? That's 4.3 mil/year! Big Baby only makes 3.3 right now!!

To be fair, he was only a second round player so the Wolves wouldn't be bound to the rookie scale contracts. At the time he was drafted, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion he wouldn't come over if he was drafted in the first round.

He's a good player, though. The Wolves did a really good job drafting him. I wanted to get our hands on him, but that just never worked out.
