Joe Johnson 2010 = Rashard Lewis 2008.  A very good player that's ultimately a very good #2 player, who gets paid like a superduperstar and whose team almost immediately regrets signing the contract.

So Joe Johnson basically quit on the Hawks during the playoffs, alienated the fan base, and now he is rewarded with a max contract? Wow... he would be fool not to accept but the Hawks are even dumber to offer him such a contract. Way overpaid and overrated.

Overpaid and underrated.

  • GOT IT!!!
This has sign and trade written all over it. The Hawks can't be that stupid to want to keep him for a max.

Then again who would be stupid enough to take on his contract? Knicks?

Did you say stupid?

It must be the knicks or the clippers

There were rumors that the knicks were going to sign Johnson before Lebron so they could show him they are commited to winning. I bet they are working on a Joe Johnson for Galinari or Chandler and Curry.

I have no words. This is just outrageous.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

If I already had a good team, Joe Johnson would be on my dream list, but if I was building a team I would not build one around Joe Johnson.  He would be an excellent piece on a good team, not a franchise player, IMO... He is not a D. Wade, LB James, or, he hehe, Rajon Rondo but he sure would look good along side of any of them.

He sure would've looked good next to Paul Pierce for the last 8 years...

I still can't believe he was traded for a brief rental of role players Tony Delk and Rodney Rogers.

He wouldve left when his rookie contract was up, at least thats what he did in Phoenix and they were in a much better situation than we wouldve been at the time.  Not to mention we wouldnt have been able to give him the money he wanted bc of LaFrentz, Blounts, and Ricky Davis's contract (yikes, I still shudder thinking of this team in the mid 2000's)  He seems like a bit of a flake if you ask me, almost like a Carlos Boozer

Joe Johnson is $$$ chaser. Can't blame for that. Winning was never a priority for him.

Hawks will cripple their franchise for a long time with that offer. For their sake, I hope they never offer it.

Phoenix low-balled Joe Johnson for two consecutive summers.

On the first occasion, JJ was ready to sign, they had an agreement only for Phoenix to pull out at the last moment and leave Joe swinging in the wind. The deal was worth something like $50 million. On the second occasion, Joe felt he was worth the max and Phoenix didn't which forced Joe to go out into free agency and look for an offer (Atlanta).

That bad blood played a huge role in Joe Johnson leaving Atlanta. The only reason JJ left the Suns for Atlanta was mismanagement by Bryan Colangelo in Phoenix.

Eight years ago a lot of people looked good....wouldn't pay them that kind of money now, though.

Based on JJ's performance since he came to Atlanta, he was correct to be upset with Phoenix.

Contracts are tough with players like JJ since scoring gets so overpaid.

That's crazy

Joe Johnsn is about a 12 mil per player in reality
Good scorers are often grossly overpaid as well as overrated by statistics.

Conversely, this was how Ainge managed to convince Rondo to accept 55 million over 5 years due to his lack of a consistent jump shot, even though he was our best player.

At least Rashard Lewis can relax now, he is no longer the most overpaid/overrated player in the league. Congrats Rashard! ;D

And to think Joe Johnson will get 20$ million per year... while Rondo will be at 11$ million... wow.

Joe Johnson is a good player who is worth maybe 15 mil per season. Maybe. He should be considered a #2 option on a good team. Yeah he can score, but he dominates the ball and doesn't get to the line that much. No way he should be making almost 20 mil per season. Hawks overpaid and are going to regret it in 2 seasons. Celtics fans, just take a minute to think about if he were still on the C's and wanted this much money from Wyc.
