Doc Rivers is not opting out.

The Celtic coach will be returning to the club for at least the remaining season on his contract, a source close to Rivers indicated moments ago.

The fact Rivers is staying on would seem to be an encouraging sign that the Celtics’ main players will also be back for another season.

Rivers was seriously considering a sabbatical from coaching on the grounds that a break would allow him to spend time with his family after six years apart coaching the Celts.

He had also gone through a trying year as the club dealt with injuries and moved toward its future in point guard Rajon Rondo.

The Celtics’ key players have lobbied Rivers to stay, but it was thought he’d take the opportunity to leave if the team was about to go into a rebuilding phase.

If he’s hanging around, it likely means he has at least a fair indication that they might be, as well.

Glad to hear that Doc has decided to stay in Boston. Welcome back, Doc!

The first domino is now off, it should entice Ray and Paul to re-sign.

Hope this is true.

If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

Awesome news!  I do hope Doc didn't rush his decision though, and this is truly what he wants to do.   It's still only two weeks from the finals and idk if that  is enough time for him to rest his emotions and make a sound decision that he completely agrees with.

Excellent news! I'm glad Doc decided to stay. Hope we can get a great assistant coach so he's rewarded with a little time off during the season. Now let's get the rest of the team sorted out.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Like Lawrence Frank?  Cuz I'd love to get him as our assistant coach.

Suddenly today now feels like a Friday! I am extremely psyched that Doc is returning and now believe next year will not be a rebuilding one. Doc has won me over these past few years and I cant think of a better person to have in charge of our team.

Hopefully, he knows something that we don't know about PP and Ray. I cant imagine he would return unless he knew we would  have a very competitive line up to put on the floor. I cant wait to see what Danny's grand plan is now!

Go Celtics!!
