"And it turns out that Dwight Howard, the most physically gifted big man in basketball, wants to team up with the most physical gifted little guy in basketball: Chris Paul."

My initial reaction is; who wouldn't want to play with Chris Paul, but I could see their being something here. With Vince Carter's expiring deals and a few other chips the Magic could give the Hornets some significant cap relief (and some OK players) as they'd be able to take on Okafor or Stojakovic.

Unfortunately work blocks any kind of trade checkers for me but I'd guess that something to the effect of Vince Carter, Brandon Bass and Jameer Nelson for Chris Paul and Emekea Okafor would work.

Dwight Howard wants to play with him, that doesn't mean New Orleans would ever consider a package that didn't include Howard for CP3.

You mention their "chips", what young talent does Orlando have that would be attractive for CP3?  He's only 24 and the best PG in the league!

wow...that would make orlando an improved team.  in this bizarro world of nba deals, that wouldn't surprise me (proposed trade).  and it actually looks good for the hornets too.

i couldn't imagine both howard and okafor on the same front line...

They aren't HUGE trade chips, but New Orleans could get something (Bass, Gortat) out of an enormous salary dump in Paul and one of those three brutal contracts. They'd also still be able to throw out a "superstar" to sell a few seats.

Howard should be more concerned working on his offensive game this offseason than about who he'd want to come into ORL.  Pretty much anyone in the NBA wouldn't mind having CP3 as their PG.

Unless CP3 can make Howard hit a jumper or free throw or baby hook or something, I still don't see a CP3/Howard tandem putting that team over the top in the East, especially if some things fall into place down in Miami and in Chicago.

What superstar, are they getting Howard?

If the Hornets want to dump CP3 they can do a lot better than Vince Carter and blech.

They could have Rondo, BBD, and anything else they want from the C's for starters....

How is giving up a top 10 NBA player for salary relief a good deal for the Hornets?

Exactly CP3 won't make DH's shots outside of 3 feet go in.  He'll just get the ball in the same spots and miss anything that isn't a dunk.

The Celtics can't give New Orleans the salary relief they'd like. As nice as Rondo is, I think eliminating one of those other contracts is much more important to them.

Yes the C's can, they can take back bad contracts and send them Rasheed who will then retire.

They could dump Peja/Okafor and get Rondo. Then Rasheed retires and they save a ton of money.

Yeah but with the Hornets on the verge of selling and finacially strapped they wouldnt really be looking for much in return except for that financial relief. The best the might be able to do is get Carter's expiring while trying to pry away a Brandon Bass and a Pietrus in the deal... The biggest part for the Hornets wouldnt be Chris Paul but the fact they could also add the horrible contract of either Okafor or Peja.

Because Jameer Nelson is a VERY good basketball player.  CAP space is gold in the NBA, and with Carter's contract they get that (and he's not a bad player either).  CP3 is overrated, IMO.  Nice player, but I really wonder if there's a ton of difference between what he will offer Orlando vs. what Nelson did.  They both have their strengths and weaknesses...

Cap room isn't gold, as the Knicks are about to prove this offseason and Detroit proved last offseason.

As for CP3 versus Jameer Nelson, what are you smoking!

CP3 is a better shooter, passer, creater, turns it over less, better defender, and a better rebounder! He's even been the healthier of the two players, and he's younger to boot!!!

Jameer does exactly one thing better than CP3, shoot three pointers, and even then its just 38.7 % versus 35.3%

Take a look at the stats for goodness sakes.

When I think of what Paul did for Chandler's production, I don't even want to imagine how many alley oops Howard will be averaging per quarter if this happened.

They could have BBD/Perk/Rasheed and Rondo for CP3, I absolutely guarentee it. That's just as much expiring money and a better young player to boot.

They could also get a ton more by fielding offers from other teams. You think the Bulls wouldn't give up Rose for him? Or any number of other teams with expiring deals.

Dalls could send Dampier's contract plus a ton of other pieces too.
