A DelNegro or Frank head coach hire would be a clear sign the team is being blown up.

Not sure there's any substance to all of this.

I tend to think that  Doc comes back, with the understanding that he's going to miss a few practices (maybe take off a road trip or two).  Lawrence Frank gets hired in Thibs role, handles some of the practices, handles the games while Doc's with his kids.

Don't think that arrangement would work for 29 teams in the league, but Doc is so well-established and respected with the Celtics core that I think this would be a good arrangement.

Del Negro; sounds like a wild-ass guess to me.  If Doc *does* step away permanently, Jeff Van Gundy's the guy I'd like them to talk to.

I actually wouldn't mind Van Gundy getting the job.  He's not a bad coach, plus his sideline show is pretty entertaining.

Vinny on the other hand does absolutely nothing for me.

I would love to hire Vinny Del Negro. I've always dreamed of being laughed at again by Bulls fans.

At this point, I'm really wondering if this "Doc leaving" bit is really just Doc waiting to see if the core is going to be brought back.  I mean, think about it, the whole "family" excuse is a bunch of crap.  Had he really cared about that, he probably would've tried to be there before his kids were actually out of the house.

And when did all this talk start?  At what looked to be the end of a disappointing regular season that may have led to the blow up of the team.  And we all know Doc has no plans for sticking around for rebuilding.

So, at this point, is all this "inner struggle" that Doc faces really just him trying to figure out if the Big Three are staying, how bad Perk's injury is, and what they can put around the core?

exactamundo!

Also, if a mega-changeover in player personel does come to pass, and ends up more promising than any of us thought possible, he might stick around in that case as well....For example:  Rondo and Garnett is a pretty strong foundation if we landed Joe Johnson, Mike Miller and Travis Outlaw in place of Pierce and Ray, for example.....

The problem is having an old big 3, the age of each one compounding the age of the others, not that any of them suck....just that they need their age hidden at this stage instead of magnified.....I really think a big 1 or a big 2 plus Rondo is wiser at this point....(see regular season!)

an old big 1 (Garnett imo) plus Rondo and better than expected free agents could be interesting....

The only thing that could lead to an even greater sense of ecstasy over on Blog-a-Bull than already exists would be if we hired VDN.  Please, please no. :-[

Why do we all think Del Negro is such an awful coach?  The last two years he took a Bulls team without a ton of talent to the playoffs.  In both first round series, his team fought very hard against much better teams.

Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah both blossomed under his tutelage.  All of the players on the Bulls, from what I heard, wanted him to continue as their coach next season and beyond.

I don't see what all the negativity is for regarding Vinny.  If Doc is leaving and we're signing a new coach, we should be looking for a young guy who can be with the team for a while during the rebuilding process and beyond.  Vinny has shown he can do a very solid job with a rebuilding team.

Del Negro is on the short list for the Clippers' head coaching job. He and Dwayne Casey are the only finalists/interviewees.

Hope there's someone else on that short list for the Celtics.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
If I had to work for John Paxson I'd probably want to punch him too...he and Jim are both lost as NBA GM's (Trajan Langdon, anyone?).

I think Del Negro's story really hasn't been told.  He never tried to defend himself, which leads me to believe that he knows the truth and that's fine with him...

If we are going to bring in someone (should Doc leave), he'd be a solid choice...

He's a horrible head coach. I would not want him on my team.

By "short list", I hope they mean top 50 candidates.  I would be immensely dissapointed if he ended up with that job.

Maybe he's on the list of guys they are thinking about as assistant coaches.

Del Negro was an odd choice in Chicago to begin with, and did absolutely nothing to acquit himself during his tenure.

I always had a respect for Vinny's BBIQ and thought he got shafted in Chicago.  Not a bad choice to start fresh if everyone is bolting.
