REPORT: DEL NEGRO ON CELTS' 'SHORT LIST'
By: Jessica Camerato

Vinny Del Negro is on the Celtics "short list" for coaching options next season should Doc Rivers step down, according to CBSSports.com Del Negro coached the Bulls for two seasons before being fired in May. He accumulated an 82-82 regular season record and 4-8 in the postseason, including a seven-game first round series against the Celtics in 2009. Last Thursday Rivers said he was looking to make a decision this week and is still weighing the options between his personal and professional life.

I really hope this is not true.  If Doc goes I do NOT want Del Negro to come in and be the coach.

I think it would be great to bring him in as the Associate Head Coach (Tom Tib's replacement) and have him work a year or two under Doc before becoming the head coach. I'd be less thrilled about him as head coach next year. Personally, I think Kevin McHale would be a better option if Doc leaves.

If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

I'd much rather have Lawrence Frank.

I'd prefer McHale with someone like Frank as his assistant

News like this coming out is bad. Ownership needs to make it seem like they need Rivers to stay not publicly divulging their contingency plan
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

What impresses you about McHale? I think Frank would be a much better option as HC.

This is a bad sign as to what the rest of the team will look like next year, IMO. McHale or Frank would be a good coach for a final run with the big 3, but Del Negro is a young coach...everything about this report screams "rebuild mode" in my mind.

Doc probably isn't back...most reports say he will not coach next year.  The owners and DA know this and are probably leaking reports like this to prepare the fans for the inevitable.

I don't think I even want Vinny as an assistant. There's a bunch of others I'd pick before him. Definitely don't like the idea of him as head coach.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

The source of the story is probably Del Negro's agent, who's trying to position him for his next job.  By allegedly being on a 'short list' here, the Donald Sterling's of this world would probably think Vinny must be good.....

I wouldn't put much stock in this report.

McHale seems a more likely bet, Frank seems a more likely bet, and even Doc seems a more likely bet at this point.

At this point, I'm really wondering if this "Doc leaving" bit is really just Doc waiting to see if the core is going to be brought back.  I mean, think about it, the whole "family" excuse is a bunch of crap.  Had he really cared about that, he probably would've tried to be there before his kids were actually out of the house.

And when did all this talk start?  At what looked to be the end of a disappointing regular season that may have led to the blow up of the team.  And we all know Doc has no plans for sticking around for rebuilding.

So, at this point, is all this "inner struggle" that Doc faces really just him trying to figure out if the Big Three are staying, how bad Perk's injury is, and what they can put around the core?
