Come July 1st, I beleive we should really start pulling for Al Harrington. He can play and defend multiple positions and would be really valuable for this team. He can spell Pierce and Garnett, similar to Posey. He would also provide offense.

Enough with this talk about Brad and Mike Miller. They're washed up. We need talent. Its pretty clear that Ainge is going to make another Finals push so lets not sell ourselves short by getting average to below average players.

My proposal is sign either Harrington or Morrow with the MLE and then sign Ben Wallace with the vet min, though very old, he can still defend and rebound.

The thing I'm worried about with NYK is that if they lose out on LeBron, they are probably going to try and re-up Harrington and Lee and have the money to do so...

I would like both of those guys on the Cs....more so if Perk wasn't hurt, but I'm not sure how high on the list we would be for them given our limited ways to pay them.

maybe a S&T?

I agree Chris, its going to be a long week.

(ahem) it is going to be a long offseason.

My guess is that most of the MLE type guys (Miller 1 and Miller 2, Shaq, Haywood, Outlaw, etc) won't have much action until the market for the top guys settles, which will take until mid-July, I'd guess.

I take comfort in knowing nothing excites me about signing Mike or Brad Miller.   Don't really care how long it takes to sign him.

The only thing I'm mildly excited about this offseason is the potential from trading Sheed's contract.

Enough with this talk about Brad and Mike Miller. They're washed up.

Mike Miller is actually younger, albeit by only a day, than Harrington.

Serviceable big men in free agency usually get the MLE, or in that neighborhood, when judging off recent history. Think Sheed, McDyess, Gortat, Bass etc., so I strongly doubt B. Miller takes the minimum.

As for M. Miller, perhaps we would be able to send them Sheed's contract along with other considerations (i.e. money or a future protected pick) for them to sign and trade him to us. This would benefit all parties involved.

For us...It allows us to keep the MLE and spend it on a big man.

For Miller...It gives him more money than the MLE would, since Sheed is scheduled to make a little over 6M next season.

For the Wizards...They're probably going to lose Miller for nothing. This way they receive at least something for him.

Considering that Washington is using cap space to acquire Kirk Hinrich and has tendered an offer for Josh Childress, I don't know if they would really want to sign-and-trade Miller, and take on Sheed's contract in return. They might actually prefer to let Miller walk.

Miller has played for Doc. Any positive history with Harrington (can only think of bad blood). Would think he would be more expensive. Think his rebounding has gone down as his 3 pt. shooting has gone up.

I don't mean for cap relief because, as you said, they could just let him walk. However, if we were to entice them by offering money (so they can buy out Sheed) and a pick it could be something that might be of interest.

Same type of situation played out last year with Daniels and the Pacers. We could've signed him outright, but wanted to avoid using the LLE and at the same time wanted to give him a little more money. The Pacers weren't interested in taking back any of our expirings so the deal fell through. Perhaps the sticking point then was what compensation we would give them, besides a Scal or TA that they probably would've bought out.

I would expect Miller to receive heavy minutes at both 3 and 2. Off the bench, a lineup of Davis, the Miller's, TA, and Bradley looks real solid.

this is the guy I want - can play 2 positions, decent defender, can spread the floor for Rondo/Pierce driving, great option on the post kick out - make it happen!

I think we will target a lot of guys because we will need a big and a wing to split the MLE.

If we can get Mike and Brad Miller to split the MLE, resign Ray and Tony along with drafting Bradley then we had a solid offseason.

I think getting Mike and Brad Miller both to sign on the split MLE would be probably more miracle than the Pau Gasol gift Grizzlies gave to Lakers few years back.  If I recall, the total of the last year´s contract the Millers had was somewhere in the region of 20-22m. I know they are in their latter stages of their careers and both really interested in joining up with a contender, but getting peanuts contract to join up would be too much to ask. I could see one of them take the MLE though.

Washington sharpshooter Mike Miller is generating significant interest and league executives expect him to command a multiyear contract with a starting salary greater than the midlevel exception. He’s expected to meet with the Knicks coaching staff in Los Angeles shortly after free agency begins.

Harrington's been playing for quite a bit longer, though.

Good to see a couple people here agree with me. I had a good discussion in the "So now that Doc is returning , Mike Miller to the C's?" thread yesterday debating him and Harrington. I prefer AL but if Mike is what we get, so be it.
