When Thibs asks them to play defense, they'll just stare at him with that dumbfounded look (as he busts out tapes of the Celtics).

They will be good (if this all comes together) but paper giants don't always win titles...

Not just that, but if they don't win the title in year one LeBron will storm into the GM's office and demand that the Bulls make some moves to surround him with better players.

And That is in fact the scariest scenario, I think....If that roster does in fact come together like that (Lebron, Rose, Deng, Noah and Bosh), On Paper it just doesn't get any better than that.

I think this season will be Lebron James' Toughest one so far...if this Dream Roster doesn't work, then I think folks will really start looking at him - not Thibs, Rose or anyone else.

The Questions will start: "Why can't the Bulls win?"

"Who could CHI bring in to help them win?"

With a (potential) roster this young, I guess I could give them a free pass their first year together, but would Lebron?

And how long would it take before Lebron (like BballTim said), start asking for roster changes?

Wow.

That is the Beauty of the NBA, I think - You just can't buy Chemistry.

Okay, so let me admit right off the bat that I went right to the end of this thread; didn't read the first 2 pages.

I think Thibs is a difference maker.  He makes team better.  He will force them to "study their Chemistry", i.e. communication.  There's no other way to play that kind of defense.

That said, I still like the 2009-2010 Celtics better than the team of Lebron, Rose, Deng, Noah and Bosh.  I'm just going position-by-position.  In any case, I'm hearing that such a team probably can't be put together with Deng still around.  Just too much money.

That team's lacking a sharpshooter. If Bron goes to Chicago I'd be surprised if Deng wasn't traded.

Luol Deng is only 25 but has a bad contract and a history of injuries.  How many people would consider sending Ray Allen in a sign-and-trade to that team for Deng?

I wouldn't and I'm of the opinion that Ray's only got 2 good years left at best.  Deng is as overrated as you can get while being underrated.  : )

UPDATE: Just realized someone already offered that hypothetical.

I would probably do S&T Ray for Deng. Deng is young and fills a great role for this team, especially if Bradley can become a good combo guard. If the team then were to sign M. Miller to the MLE to play starting SG. They could keep Nate (or TA) to backup Rondo for a year while Bradley gets ready.

Then they could try and land another big man for the vet min and trade Sheed's retiring contract for another big (or trade Sheed for M. Miller and sign another guy.)

Traded for Big / Vet Min / Perk (when better)
KG / Baby
Pierce / Deng
M. Miller / (TA if kept)
Rondo / Nate (if kept) / Avery

I'd take my chances with this team beatin eboth the Bulls and/or a Dwade/Boozer team in Miami.

BMiller / Perkins
KG / Baby / Harangody
Pierce / Gomes ( ? )
Ray / TAllen
Rondo / Nate Robinson / Bradley
I agree, with green eyeshades -->  8)

Thinking about this more - you could even transition Pierce to the bench with this lineup and let him be superman in a few less minutes. Deng is basically a bigger (6'9") more efficient version of Tony Allen.

And since you are basically doing Chicago a favor in making the trade, you might be able to get cash and/or picks back as well. (If CHI runs out a starting four of Noah, Bosh, Lebron, Rose - then I think Ray Allen is about the best fifth player to add to that mix for the next two years. Which would give them a shot to get some other supporting talent in there.)

I'll go the other way on this one. I think that a first time head coach with that team is a potential disaster, especially with LeBron's hands-on method of "managing the coach". Could work,  but probably won't, and Thibs'll be the first and foremost scapegoat.

Ray Allen in Chicago would be scary. He would be the piece that would allow that whole roster to work and be the veteran presence they need. A lineup of Rose, Deng, Lebron, Bosh, Noah has no outside shooting. If Ray Allen really wanted to go to Chicago, I would demand to get 2 first rounders along with Deng in return.

They would laugh at your demands. If Ray is certainly leaving I would take Deng for him straight up.
Deng is only 24, would make us immediately younger, plays great defense and helps in one of our biggest deficiencies, rebounding.

Yeah until he goes on one of his spells and misses 20 shots in a row and turns the ball over every time he touches it and get's torched on defense.  Still on the C's he's fine and I don't like Deng very much so if someone can come up with a better trade partner I would be all for it.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
If LeBron goes to Chicago, it will be interesting to watch the MJ comparisons, and how LeBron handles that (the media could be brutal on him, especially if he fails to win a title).

I was at a leadership conference, and a speaker said something that I agree with: "We don't compare things that are different, but we compare things that are similar."  No one has ever faced scrutiny in Chicago because they fail to compare to Jordan...  But if LeBron goes there that will all change.

Ray Allen played fine on D. The missed shots is an issue, but with Lebron and Rose, plus Bosh - he'd be the fourth option.

I mean obviously this team would be awesome, but there are some worries still. I wouldn't worry about this team defensively. I think Lebron is the best defensive player in the NBA, and playing alongside Deng, Noah, and Bosh and being coached by Thibs, the defense would be superb. The main concern would have to be perimeter shooting. Drose's J is improving, but he's still not a threat from 3. Deng isn't a particularly good shooter and neither is Noah. Bosh can shoot the midrange J, but if I'm trying to defend this team, I just pack it in the paint and dare them to shoot 3s.

Great point, I'm thinking the bench would not be spectacular either, they don't have much now and I'm assuming wouldn't have much money left to spend if they did in fact get those guys.
