I was reading some guys the would resign Ray Ray for about 10-12 millions bucks a year, some of them wrote about a couple or three years contracts. I don't get it.

If I were Wyc I wouldn't offer more than 8 millions for a year, or if he asked for a 2 year contract, never more than 14 millions.

Where is your limit?

No team with cap room is going to give Ray a big contract.  I read the MLE is the starting point and figure the Cs overpay in order to keep him on a short contract.

My prediction: 2 years for a total of 17 million (8.5 mil per year).

Less than 9 mill a year depending on hoe the Sheed contract turns out and whether Pierce picks up his option or opts-out and signs a new deal for a lower cap number this season but with more years.

Obviously, it's not coming out of my pocket.  I'd say there really isn't any price too high on a two year deal.  I think years much more than dollars is what could be killer here.

I also say that assuming that no team will offer him more than 10 million a year.  I'd say ideally under 20 million over 2 years, but I'd go north as long as it stayed at 2.

Ultimately, I don't see many teams offering him big money.  If a team sucks and is years away, he's useless to them.  If a team is a legit contender, they probably can't offer him more than the MLE.  I could maybe see a team that misses out on the FA-palooza pay him big for one year, but I don't see many teams wanting to have him hindering their plans next summer.

I'd glady pay him that.  I'd also go as far as Jon said to 2 yrs 20M.  Get his big money off the books to retool in 2010 then get him back for annual vet. mins after that!

I think we lose Ray. Too many teams with big cap space (NYK, Nets, Heat, Clips, Sactown,Bulls,Wiz) and too few viable destinations. The big FAs are seeming to cluster. They saw how that worked for the Cs in '08 and are tending to lean the same way to maximize their chances for a ring. More than one team will be left out in cold and will throw a figure at ray he can't refuse and we can't match. Our best hope is a S&T with him if someone offers him big $$$.

I can see him on the Knicks, Nets, Heat or Bulls. Hope I'm wrong and he stays with us for reasonable $$ or we get something for him. The other alternative is to give him a BIG 2 yr contract which will expire when KGs does. Then they'll both be valuable trade chips or free us up some big $$$. I'm so confused????

Totally agree. I would be willing to overpay with a 2 year deal but if Ray wants 3 years I would tell him to take a paycut or go sign somewhere else.

Isnt Ray on a 17-18m a year contract which is up now in July? If so, then we could easily pay him 10m/2 years to keep it in hand with KG´s contract. 2012 hopefully has good free agents available for rebuilding around Rondo.

I guess it is hard to say who beyond the Celtics is going to offer big money for ray.  All of these eams that have cleared space don't seem like they would have Ray Allen as their fall back plan if they don't get any of the big names and have money left over.  Teams that do get Lebron or other big names seem like they would want younger more long term solutions.

I think the Celtics are in pretty good position to get Ray on good terms, meaning $5-7M

Agreed, keeping it at two years is much more important then the total number amount paid.  It's not like were going to have any CAP space before then either way if we get him for 16 mil or 20 mil

He's worth something like 3 years at $8-10 million per year, with the intention of possibly using him in a trade as expiring contract in the last season.  I think a tradeable third year on the contract is important.

If it is a sign-and-trade, I think the best value will be gotten by sending him to a contender in the East.  I had thought Miami next to Dwayne Wade would be a good destination for him, but their trade of Daequan Cook makes it harder to put a Beasley-centric package together.

I don't wanna see Ray getting more that 4 mil/year. He is NOT worth it, hes old, unreliable shooter period. After game 3 his stock has hit the bottom in my book. Get him cheap or let him go to the Bulls all I care for.
Best case scenario is a sign and trade. If Paul is ready to rearrange his deal, Ray should make a pay cut as well. Most likely Danny will get him a 7-8 mill contract 2 years.

7mil per year over three years seems fair, or 10mil per year over two years. Ray Allen is really one dimensional at this point in his career. He is not even in the top 15 free agents.

I am going to dispute this.  I don't think you can name 15 free agents better than Ray Allen.  He's probably the best perimeter shooter available.  Among shooting guards, he's behind Dwayne Wade (if he opts out) and Joe Johnson, but ahead of players like John Salmons, JJ Redick, and Ronnie Brewer.
