Been going over salary charts and seeing who is available to help us in the next year -

We need big man help real bad but do not have the financial resources to get the help - Assuming Pierce opts out and restructures and both the Allens sign - we will still be past the cap but below the dreaded luxery tax threshold.

So I prepped this spreadsheet to list my ideas.

The beatings will continue until morale improves

Oooh I love a good spreadsheet!  The LLE's bi-annual an used on Marcus "plum forgot how to play" Daniels last year ..
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

I'm bored, so here are his ideas translated

~ Sign Ray Allen to a 2 year, $22.5MM contract
~ Sign Paul Pierce to a 4 year, $49.5 MM contract
~ Sign Tony Allen to a 5 year, $20.0 MM contract

Some extensions in there for BBD and Perkins

~ MLE: Shaq, Haywood, or David Lee
~ LLE (which I don't believe we have): Brad Miller or Tony Battie or Flip Murray
~ Min: Juwan Howard, Amir Johnson, Acie Law, or Ben Wallace

~ Unrealistic trade for Michael Beasley
~ Trade for Leon Powe

The links don't work on your computer - ACF?

Bottom line is that we need to resign both the Allens; extend Perk and BBD; restructure Pierce; use the Sheed injury exception, the LLE, MLE, and three minimum wage spots to get at least two bigs, a backup point guard, and two wings.

This would be an awfully bad team to watch in 2014 with just Pierce, Perk, BBD, Rondo, and TA eating up $49M in salary.  You gave BBD an incredibly generous extension.

You'd be willing to pay Shaq 3x as much as Brad Miller?
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

I'd be willing to not pay Brad Miller at all. :)

Why would Pierce do that?

He can make 20.5 this year.....under your scenario he would earm only 29 extra over the next three years......don't think he has more than four decent years left, but certainly should exceed 29

1) Too much money for TA, Baby and Perk.
2) No LLE to use this year (can be used every other year)
3) No way Lee signs for the MLE.
4) I love Scali, but why would Clev sign and trade for a vet min guy?
5) No way Pierce gives the Celtics a 10 million dollar break on next years salary.

With Pierce, I think you really have to think about it as - subtract 1 year and $21.5 from whatever contract you're giving him; that's his extension. I would wager that he won't opt out and risk the $21.5 mil unless he's already talked with the Celtics about a new extension, so that has to be factored in. In that light, this scenario would basically be a 3 year, $28 million extension with some of his current salary being paid in the later years. 3 and $28 Doesn't sound totally unreasonable, but if the Celtics are giving Ray 2 years and $22.5, I don't think Pierce will take less (extra) per year than Ray is getting. If you're giving Ray 2 and $22.5, I think you have to give Paul 4 and $56.
Go Celtics.

Not likely with a likely lockout coming.

I can see an extension at less money then he is earning now, but not giving back the money from this year.

TP for taking the time to make a spreadsheet.
What I like the most: seeing Tony Battie's name.  He would be a decent pickup for the vet min.  Is he injury free?  I see he didn't get many mins with NJ last year.

One more thing, how does it fix up the Celtics?

Except for the Lee dream, it is overpaying current role players and adding old patches.

Here' my take on what we will probably see opening day in green:

Rondo/Nate (1)/ A. Bradley (2)
Ray/TA (1)/ (5)
Pierce/Finley (3)/Harangody (2)
KG/BBD/Scal (3)
Perk/B. Miller (4) / Battie (3)

Notes:
(1) 2 years, $4.5M
(2) D-League
(3) vet min
(4) 2 years, MLE
(5) Yes, I know Cs can sign another player, but my guess is they don't completely fill out the roster.
