al jefferson would be a nice offensive pick up but would destroy what got us to the finals. defensive rotations. i just dont see him getting into playing d or even if he does not being able to give us what we want. dont get me wrong i love all but we need a presence in the paint. you could see that against LA. and for heavens sake get a guy who knows how to box out !!!! FUNDAMENTALS GUYSSS GOD !. sorry watching people like lamar odom grab offensive boards made me want cut my wrists.

People on this board don't understand the problem with the C's - there offense STUNK in the fourth quarter. Teams lock down and our old3 slow down, and we can't score. We got plenty of stops against LAL in the fourth, just no buckets. I think Al can give you bigger version of Powe. You won't get good perimeter D, but you will get some decent help D (blocks, charges) and I think he'll body up OK. Ray Allen was viewed as an elite scoring wing with no D when he came on board. He's been a plus defender since.

You put him in the Perk role with the starters (catching dump offs and trailing the breaks, plus some ISO) and our offense would be tremendous. He could also carry the offense when Rondo is out, something Pierce cannot do consistently anymore.

I think they can pickup the Perk sub at the vet minimum.

They need a SF with some size behind Pierce.

A pretty good offseason would be:

Trade Sheed, BBD, S&T TA to Minny for AlJeff
Trade S&T Nate to CLE for Delonte
Sign Gomes at 3 mill for a year with a team option @ 3 mill
Sign a vet min center
Resign Ray for two years @10 with a team option

Jefferson / Vet Min / Perk
KG / Gomes / Harangutan
Pierce / Gomes
Ray / West
Rondo / West / AB

Total salary:
Pierce $21,513,521
KG $18,800,00
Jefferson $13,000,000
Ray $10,000,000
Rondo $9,000,000
West $4,658,500
Perk $4,390,208
Gomes $3,000,000
Bradley $1,546,560
Harangody $500,000
Vet Min Big $900,000
Vet Min Wing $900,000
Vet Min Guard $900,000

That's a 70.3 million dollar payroll.

They were at 87 this year, plus you'd still have 3 mill of MLE in case you needed to add someone else.

The NBA also told teams that the luxury tax threshold for next season should come in around $68 million, nearly $2 million lower than the threshold for the '09-10 season.
In my fantasy above (and yes it was a fantasy) if Pierce opted out and took a three year deal starting low, the C's would actually be below the TAX threshold.

do you think ray's improvement in defense has anything to do with his declining offensive game?

Can't believe some of the AJ bashing here. Jefferson back to the Celtics is a dream come true. In the right situation, he is a legitimate super star. He has never been in a system were defense comes first. He can adjust easily. Pre Thibs, Doc didn't preach defense as much. More time with Clifford Ray is just what AJ needs. Wow, if there is a possibility, DA should take it.

He has not come close to earning the "superstar" label, but I would love to see Al Jef back in Boston. A great talent on both ends, who was expected to fill Ticket's boots without the same experience or supporting cast. Now we're talking. :)
