Avery Bradley is a great value pick. definitely a tantalizing prospect. I think Monta Ellis is a solid comparison. He is electric with the ball and has elite athleticism. also plays ferocious defense.
that said, I was really liking the back up combo of Nate and TA and was hoping they were both brought back for next year. TAs defense was huge and Nate showed that he could come in with instant offense which is exactly what you need off the bench.
that would leave us with a need at back up SF....with Sheed retiring and Perk needing bigger surgery that originally expected, we also clearly need big help in the post.
so, the Bradley pick is somewhat of a disappointment from a need standpoint considering I'm really hoping we are getting in-line for another run at this thing next year.
my hope is, barring any crazy Rondo for CP3 type move, that Danny can take Sheed's retiring contract and Bradley and turn them into a big along the lines of a Camby. and then use the MLE to grab a SF like Mike Miller or Outlaw. (and obviously re-up Paul at a lower/longer deal and Ray at around 10 mil per)
that gives us:
Rondo/Nate
Ray/TA
Paul/Mike Miller
KG/Baby
Perk/Camby
and I honestly think that Bradley would be a huge part of getting something like this done because IMO he is a top, top prospect....just not exactly what we need right now.
can't complain about the pick, but definitely hoping Danny uses him fill in our ultimate needs via trade.
Well, we're not getting Camby since he already signed with Portland.
The problem I see is that we have two MLE-sized holes and only one MLE to use to fill them. For this team to be competitive, we need a significant talent backing up Paul and Ray (if he comes back) and we need an even more significant talent to be our starting center for the beginning of the year and to spell Perkins once he comes back from surgery.
I agree that we have two MLE holes but I think we actually have two ways to fill them.
One obviously is our actual MLE but the other is this combo of Sheed's retiring contract (around 6 mil) and Avery Bradley to be used via trade.
the MLE would be good to fill the SF because there are some interesting SFs available on the FA market.
that back up big is going to be harder to fill. There really aren't good FAs out there, so I think Danny is going to have to swing some kind of trade....
I guess what he could net is going to depend on how high you value the combo of a 6 mil dollar savings and an intriguing PG prospect. I think these lux tax days, that could be an enticing package for the right team...
still, the first question is whether Danny is actually going to look to move Bradley and really wants him on the Cs.
personally, like I've said, I like Nate and TA as the back up PG/SG...which actually is a huge help flexibility-wise because they are our own FAs and wouldn't have to use any exceptions to sign them.
