I am always very sceptic about yougoslav baskeball player. Except Divac and Drazan Petrovich, all other players did not deserve to be in consideration

I don't think it's a bad idea at all.  He'll always be a punchline, but he's not a terrible player.

The issue is one of priorities.  I'd be surprised if he signs for anything much less than the full MLE, so it's a question of whether you want to spend that money on Darko or on a wing (or whether we could entice Minny into a sign-and-trade so we could do both).

I'd take a flier on him at the vet minimum as our FIFTH big.  But I'd want a vet ahead of him.

He won't be no fifth big. He'll start next to KG for a while. I personally think he is a better defender than Big Baby & better offensive player than Perk. I've liked him for a while. And he's finally showing upside with consistent minutes.

Maybe.  But regardless, I'd like another reliable big with him in case he doesn't pan out.

Unless Sheed un-retires in March, C's options will remain limited. Darko is the best available option right now.

Darko would not sign with any team in the NBA for the vet. min. It would take the most of the MLE to sign him. He could go to Europe right now and get paid at least 5 mill. a season and be guaranteed playing time and be treated like a god. The only way he stays in the NBA is if he stays in Minesota or goes to a team to be a starter and is guaranteed 30 mins a game.

I'm torn on this guy.... He just turned 25 (five days ago) and would have just completed his 3rd full NBA season in 2010 if he played college ball. That said, he has a bad attitude, a sense of entitlement and it's concerning he can't seem to find a home. Still a 7 foot, skilled, southpaw, who clearly wants to play and really works is very interesting. Billups like stories are rare, but maybe in the right setting Darko can flourish?

If The Celtics announced Darko as the MLE signing I'd be optimistic.

A 25 year old 7' shot blocking rebounder with decent hands and a good passer for a big guy for the MLE?

Cool with me.

It took quite a long time for him to get over being drafted #2 to sit on the bench, and it took too long to realize what kind of player he is, but he's a solid role player (not a star, though drafted #2), and surely worth the MLE, but also young enough to get a 5-year MLE offer if he wanted it.

I'd rather have him as starting center than Semih Erden. Dancin Bear can't start as a center, so unless the Celtics can get someone better and cheaper, Darko would be nice.

Imagine all the jokes towards the Celtics and Darko in the Co-b lovers media? That's great for us, bring Shaq for the vet minimum and the Celtics are the most hated for the Co-b ballwashers.

Seriously, Darko is tall, he's strong, he plays defense and he's a skilled big man. Put him under Clifford Ray and wait for the next Laimbeer. We need some tough guys. The more I think the more I like it.

What about a S&T?  Doesn't Minny need wings?  I love Tony, but he could be expendable with the Bradley addition.  S&T Tony (4/$16M?) for S&T Darko (3/$15M?).  Does that work?

We could then resign Nate (3/$12M-ish?) and still have the full MLE to offer to a wing like Mike Miller to spell Ray and PP.

Come playoff time, we'd be rolling with:
Rondo/Nate/Bradley
Ray/Miller/Bradley
PP/Miller
KG/BBD
Perk/Darko

And we'd need a vet. min big or Erdin to be Darko's backup while Perk's out.

I feel like there were better overall roster options before the draft, but I could be happy with this.
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

I actually secretly like Darko. Maybe because he's never been on my team...

But, seriously, "More skilled that Kwame Brown" is the most [dang]ing faint praise ever written.

I agree, at 7ppg/5rpg he did ok , perhaps there is something there.

With KP down we could offer starts, that'd be attractive. But for just 1/2 yr? Cost & history are scary. Perhaps..

Wolves seem to want him back and maybe as a starter:

I don't think we can beat them in $ with their cap room or offer as much playing time.
