Saw the tweet... not a surprise I guess but I'm still shocked and sad. Say what you want about Sheed mailing the regular season but he did step up big time in the playoffs, and had a great game 7.

I loved seeing him play for the Celtics and he is (was :-\) my favorite player to listen to in interviews or off the court. He truly was a unique player in terms of personality and speaking his mind about the refs, show business, etc.

I will miss Sheed... thanks for the playoffs run and enjoy the retirement, I think he picked the right time to retire after his playoffs run but I wish he played longer for us.

Edit : Sheed walks away from 12$ million... you can say he earned enough already in his career but I don't know a lot of players who would let that much money on the table and decide to retire.

not really.  it saves Wyc some money if they do nothing but hopefully Danny can use this as an expiring deal to bring in a replacement asset that will actually contribute during the regular season and playoffs

well...sheed

not sure what to say here  but I ll use this thread to officially apologize for all the times I hated on you during the regular season. Sorry for not believing YOU that you had a switch to flip, granted I did believe in the team switch being there to flip. You really showed a ton of heart during the playoff run that I will remember forever, and game 7 was a classic example of coming up big when needed. Thank you for a great career sheed and thank you for being a part of this team that I will always hold dearly to my heart for the run that we made

quick question, roy might Know. if sheed decides to come back during the season, ie pj brown, do we still own his rights, and how does that work against the cap?

The timing of the official retirement announcement and the draft beginning within hours just can't be a coincidence.

Something will be going down with Sheed's contract and a trade. Maybe tonight or maybe it's finalized later but his official announcement tonight has to mean something.

Well, we aren't sure the paperwork has been officially filed, but I wouldn't be surprised if Danny just told him to do it.  The savings could be very valuable for this team, that would be really pushing it to resign Ray, and use the MLE if he was still on the books.

I'm happy for Sheed since he obviously couldn't wait to leave the league but I'm still kinda sad. Very curious to see what happens with his contract. Danny must have a plan or two in mind because it seems they knew all along he was retiring at the end of this season.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

At this point, it could be a good thing.  I think BBD proved that he can play the lion's share of backup minutes at the 4/5.  Thus, we don't need to invest the MLE in another big man.  The C's can probably get by with an LLE type big man that can play 10 mpg or so (30 mpg each for Perk and KG, 25 for BBD, and 11 for LLE dude).

Hopefully the team can go get a MLE wing.  I really think had we had such a player, not only would we have won the title, but likely won it in 5-6 games.  I think Ray's downfall came out of exhaustion from too many hard minutes against Kobe.  We get a wing that Doc actually will play 20+ mpg in a playoff game, and Ray and Paul don't crumble in crunch time.

Some team will call Sheed in March and he'll join them.

All in all, this worked out great for us -- Sheed gave us a great playoff run, and then we get roughly 2/3 of our money back.  With that said, I'll miss him.  He was a character, and a big game player.

Oh, and we just became a worse team (gonna miss that post-defense.)

Yeah, if this is true, it is pretty unique.
My hat off to him.
