"Warriors looking to move Biedrins

League sources said the Golden State Warriors are trying to move center Andris Biedrins(notes). The Warriors already shipped the remaining three years and $31 million of Corey Maggette’s(notes) contract to the Milwaukee Bucks and wouldn’t mind moving Biedrins’ deal, which has four years and $36 million left.

Marc J. Spears, 12:26 p.m. ET, June 24"

Based on the length of his contract, I'd imagine we could get it done for Sheed & Perk, without having to get rid of the 19th pick. I know he's polarizing player on Celticsblog, but I really like him.

Thoughts?

I would rather have Perkins. Biedrins doesn't play defense.

If it is Biedrins and # 6 for Perk,Sheed and #19 ? I would do it.

No way I trade Perk for Biedrins straight up, Pek is a much better defender.

True, but Biedrinis is a signifcant upgrade in ability to run the floor and rebound.

To get the 6 I think you'd probably have to throw in BBD and take back Turiaf

When healthy he's a good rebounder.  He's not very good on offense or defense though.  I don't really consider ' running the floor ' from my Center a important attribute.

But a 1 for 1 for Perkins would be ok I guess.  I wouldn't give up too much more for him since like I mentioned earlier he's not very good on either offense of defense.

If I'm gonna agree to pay $36 million over the next 4 years to Biedrins, a 5 ppg, 8 rpg, 1.3 bpg center who shoots 55% from the line, can't be relied on to play more than 25 minutes a night due to foul trouble, and has missed 70 games in the past two seasons, and give up Perk, a 25-year-old who is one of the best defensive centers in the league and started on a team that won a title and made the Finals over the past three seasons, I'd better be getting Anthony Randolph and maybe Azubuike too. I don't care if Perk blew out his knee and is gonna miss some time. Biedrins has done nothing in this league and is already way overpaid.

And keep in mind, those low numbers came on a team that plays a fast pace that inflates scoring and rebounding numbers, and was one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA.
Go Celtics.

Those numbers are vastly deflated by injury from this season.

The year before he averaged 11.9 points, 11.6 rebounds. 1.5 blocks, on .578 from the floor, and .55 from the line. Before last season he has improved in nearly every statistical category each year.

Beidrins is just an overpaid role player, isn't he?

I think this should be combined with the other GSW rumor of Ellis and #6.

If GS is really trying to blow it up and start over, and the C's are trying to extend the window, who says no to:

Ellis, Biedrins, #6
for
Sheed, Baby, Perk, TA at 3 mill per year.

At the very least GS clears a lot of long term money, and probably saves about 7 mil right away if Sheed retires.

They'd have:
Curry/Bell
Morrow/
Azubuike/V-Rad
Randolph/Baby/Wright
Perk/Turiaf/Gadzuric

And a LOT of renewed flexibility for the impending probable sale/future of the team.

Boston goes

Rondo/Robinson (if he'll take the "early Bird 4 mil per year deal)
Ray/Ellis
Pierce/Ray (96 minutes for those 3 = 32 mpg. Fresh for playoffs)
KG/#6
Biedrins/MLE/#19

Or

Rondo/Robinson
Ray/Ellis
Pierce/Ray
KG/Cousins or Favors
Biedrins/MLE

If Sactown/Minny want to do #5 or #4 for #6 and #19 unless Cousins is slipping anyway.

But this is what great teams do. They almost win a title, then you look up and suddenly they have a core of Rondo/Ellis/Cousins going forward and everyone is like "how'd that happen?" Kind of like how the lakers have missed the playoffs 5 times in 60 years or something and never have to rebuild. As much as I hate them, they are aggressive at moving ahead.

Andris Biedrins doesn't box out. His individual rebounding over-state his impact as a rebounder. His lack of box outs + slender frame in the paint (doesn't eat space like someone  like Shaq does) routinely allow opposing players to sneak into the paint and steal away rebounds.

Kendrick Perkins does box out and does eat space. Those contributions negate most of Biedrins advantage in his individual rebounding numbers. Biedrins numbers are also inflated by the number of small ball lineups + lack of rebounders around him.

Biedrins does have a rebounding advantage but it is a small one.

The main advantage Biedrins has over Perkins is his offensive ability.

Yes, Biedrins has a limited offensive repertoire but his superior mobility and quickness allow him to be a much larger threat in the pick and role and in the open court. That helps him create more high percentage looks around the basket. Biedrins superior athleticism allows him to finish in traffic in more situations than Perkins nonexplosive ways do too.

Biedrins also had a solid face up and drive game before the injuries hit. Good for a couple of drives of a night. This depends a lot on his confidence level (loses confidence, stops driving, happens often ... but the skill-set was there and the confidence in it can be improved) + is an unknown following his injuries as to whether he can still do it.

I don't see why either side would do this deal...

Perkins doesn't fit in at all with the Warriors' style of play.

Biedrins doesn't really fit with the Celtics, not a good post defender.  I'm not sure I'm a fan of any Perkins deal, unless we can move up and get Wesley Johnson, who I think could be prolific with Rondo.  In that case, Sheed couldn't retire, and we'd need to pick up a solid post defender with BBD likely our starting center.

In that case, lets not do a Perkins deal, period.  I'm not sold on Cousins.

It makes sense for GSW as strictly a salary dump. They get out of Biedrinis' contract.

I also agree with the couple it into Ellis camp, I was going to mention that in my original post but decided against it.

As it was already noted, you can't really trade picks in sign and trade deals.
