Hallelujah.

Do the Lakers win another title without Phil Jackson at the helm?

I'm gonna stake a claim that they won't.  The Lakers seriously lack leadership without the Zen Master.

it would be great news, but he could be posturing for more $$. I don't think he comes back with the big pay cut that they are planning to offer him.

Well, $$ may be part of it, but it sounds like health is a big concern for Phil.  Spending most of the year traveling around and working as a coach is very taxing on his body, and he's apparently in pain for a large portion of the time.  That's got to be difficult for him.

Similar to Rasheed, perhaps he just doesn't feel like he has it in him to coach any longer.

Now that he has his 11th ring, most people will consider him the best coach of all time. He probably feels like he's climbed the mountain. Couple that with his poor health and it seems like a logical decision.

Unfortunately for him he hasn't climbed the mountain the way he thinks he has. He would need another 20 years of coaching teams with out the best player in the league and a good to great supporting cast, he would need to win a few more titles, he would need to prove himself as more than just a glorified ego stroker and feather smoother to surpass Red Auerbach.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

This is just posturing, I bet you Phil Jackson will be back next year with the Lakers.

This is what I'm thinking. I am sure that some of it is health, but I bet some of it is due to the fact that he's a little sore about taking a salary cut, too.

Great, maybe then I'll hear less about how he's the best coach of all time.

Thus, not surprised to learn that "Lakers just announced that mega free agent Phil Jackson will be back next season"
