Just two quick thoughts on this strange season.

1) I'm a long time Ainge fan/apologist here. Have felt he's gotten almost all of the big decisions right and I haven't minded the chances that he's taken that haven't worked out at all. One of the guys I was hoping they would take a chance on was Chris Anderson, and I'm wondering how much of a difference you guys think he might have made. Just be reputation, a big, active, athletic 7 foot rebounding machine would have been a perfect fit for them as they lacked size, rebounding and athleticism at times. His numbers don't jump out at me from last year, but if he was on his game, he seems like a guy that would have provided exactly what we were missing... especially against the Lakers...

2) It hurts for me to even mention his name, but has any one man done more to hurt the Boston Celtics than Chris Wallace? Giving up a shot at a lottery that included Lebron, Melo, Bosh and Wade - I thought that was completely criminal and had I been the owner at that point, I would have fired him on the spot. Absolutely terrible. Then, to deliver 2 championship rings to Lakers and that sociopath (seriously) Kobe Bryant via the Pau Gasol trade... simply unbelievable... at least we gave up Al Jefferson and a lottery pick for KG... Kobe might be playing in Chicago or forced that Bynum for Jason Kidd trade if it wasn't for Chris Wallace saving the day for them... an unbelievably bad trade... Andrew Toney, Vinnie Johnson, Chris Wallace... legendary Celtic killers...

True on both accounts, though one could argue Marc Gasol has been a better player than Big Al (at the very least more durable)
Yup

I think Wallace got lucky on the Marc G. pickup.

Chris Wallace got us the Bar Legend Vin Baker and made Paul Thanksdad Ga$ton a lot of money and we won three playoff series on the strength of Walter McCarty's 3 point shooting!

Now give me Chris Paul and Chris Bosh.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

No doubt, but "it is, what it is" (man, I wish I could stop saying that  :) )

I agree. Few would be shocked if he turned into a bust after that trade.

We could say that about so many moves. We could also say some of his moves were just unlucky.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
In fairness to Wallace (and I hate to even come to his aid, so to speak) he worked for an idiotic, disconnected owner.  I think that Ainge reaps the benefits of an owner that is involved in every facet, yet not overbearing.

Every GM could tout "luck" as part of their job...and it's truly an inexact science.  But count me in the minority of believing that what he did with that 2002 team was beyond belief...  If Joe Johnson, rather than Kedrick Brown, was retained we'd probably look at him in a totally different light...

1. We did not give up lottery pick for KG (went to Seattle for Ray).
2. Wallace's worst move was Joe Johnson trade, when he could have given up Kedrick Brown, or not make the trade at all.
