If you can get a 2nd rnder for him or maybe even a high 3rd then the trade should be done asap. 7mill is a ton in the NFL. No way I want to give that to a pouty guard. Belichek made an NFL starter out of a wrestler who didn't play college ball.

Mankins is being very stupid. At this stage of the game I doubt he can get a lot of money. And if he sits out the year he doesn't get vesting towards a year towards the pension.

He should have done the Asante Samuels thing

He's not sitting out a year.  If the Pats don't sign him (again, I still think they will), they will trade him.  Some team is going to pay him the money, and will give up at least a second rounder, if not a first for him.  He is one of the best guards in football, and there are still a lot of dumb GMs out there.

Amen. It sounds like Mankins is more interested in Mankins, not the team.  I can't feel sorry for someone ticked off about "only" being offered $7M a year, regardless of the injury worries.

Total speculation here, but I wonder if someone from another team has talked to him about bringing him to that team.  I don't know if that counts as tampering in the NFL, but it would sure explain a lot, and make for a juicy story line.
Celtics fan for life.
