Rasheed and Perk both now have six technicals; one more for either of them, and it's a suspension.  Can they each play two more games without picking one up?

I will say, I wish the refs used a little more discretion in calling the two techs on us in the fourth (although neither ended up hurting us.)

Also, random question:  if they received a tech in Game 7, would they start next season with a clean slate?  That has to be the case, right?

I'll be shocked if Sheed doesn't get another tech. He came very close to getting a 2nd tech tonight.

Gasol flops again and Sheed gets called for the foul watch out.

The T's on Sheed and Nate were deserved.

I thought so as well although I thought Sheeds was more deserved then Nate's, apparently the opposite of Doc's impression.

Sheed did a good job during the year tone it down and avoid a suspension when it seemed inevitable.  All I hope is that somebody tells him that he is one away.

Given the track record of how refs give out technicals, both were deserved.  Although I just don't like the way refs give T's, especially when they can be so costly during the playoffs (i.e., 7 tech's and you're suspended).

I can see wanting to keep order in a game, but the technicals for the guys that run away after bad calls have nothing to do with that.  It's all about the refs not wanting to be shown up.

With Nate, he didn't even say anything, and I'm not even sure Odom noticed he was there.

To me, technicals should be given out for yelling and swearing at refs, or physical altercations that don't have any basketball relevance, among players.  Everything else, just keep the game going.

I'm with Doc with it is what it is.  Nothing to do but, play and hope for the best. Perkins and Davis took physical play to another level and Pau shrunk like the '08 version.

I think both were obvious techs. The players should have shown more discretion. You can't run around yelling as long as Sheed did. That was ridiculous. And Nate was completely unacceptable behavior. Getting up off the floor on a foul that wasn't even that bad get walking up to a player to taunt them? It was so premeditated, that I'm not sure what the point is in criticizing the call whatsoever.

These players are adults. Nothing wrong with holding them responsible for their behavior.

I can't imagine a world where either of those doesn't warrant a whistle.

My understanding is that a game 7 tech would result in a suspension for game 1 of the regular season next year.

Everyone seems to think Sheed is more likely to get another T. Not me. I'm much more worried about Perkins. Sheed knew he had "one to give" last night so he used it. But he is too savvy to let himself get T'd up again.

Although I will say that Perk has been doing a really good job of being conscious and staying calm the last few games, I still think it's more likely for him to have a mental lapse, let his habit/instinct take over, and lose control of his emotions.

The worst thing about the 7 Techs rule is that virtually every basketball fan on the face of the earth (sans perhaps Laker fans and David J. Stern) think that it's the dumbest rule out there. In my opinion, the league only punishes itself by enforcing it.

Here's the thing, though:  especially with Nate's call, how many times do you see something like that happen in a game?  10?  15?  There is a ton of trash talk, and walking up to another player and talking some smack has become a part of the game.  Occasionally the refs call it, but usually they let it go.  That being the case, I think it's stupid to call it in a close game in the fourth quarter.

Regarding Sheed, stuff like that is called a little more consistently, although a lot of times the ref won't call it if the player is walking / running away.

The real issue that the League needs to address is the double-technicals.  Aren't five of Perk's T of that variety?  Double-technicals so often are cop-outs, the refs don't bother trying to determine who the instigator is so they just call a tech on both.

Simplest solution (so Stern won't do it) would be for double-technicals to not count toward the 7-tech limit.  Personally, I don't believe there's any reason for a player to *be* suspended for technical fouls, anyway, since there's already an in-game punishment.
