With the news that USC is being sanctioned (including having to forfeit wins from 2004), does that mean that USC's 2004 championship will be vacated?  Does that make Auburn the national champion, since they ended up #2 in the final poll?  Or does the title go to Oklahoma, who lost to USC in the BCS championship?

Also, will Vince Young retroactively get Reggie Bush's Heisman?  Could the 2003 title also be vacated, since Bush played then, as well?

It's going to be interesting to see how tough the NCAA wants to get here.

NCAA has nothing to do with the Heisman trophy of the determination of the national champion.

Sure, but when USC's official record is 0-13, or Reggie Bush's official stats are "DNP - ineligible", it seems silly to keep the championships and Heisman in place.

I believe the NCAA has to sanction the BCS voting results, don't they?  That title may at least be within their power to strip.

I think they have to replay the title game with the number 3 BCS team getting their chance to play for a title.

I assume they will just do co champions for Oklahoma and Auburn, but it would be fun to think they would have to pick

I don't think they should have a champion for that year and vacate it.

Along with the Heisman, Vince Young said he wants nothing to do with it.

nope.  NCAA has no power at all to do anything with a BCS title.  Therein lies the problem with the NCAA not actually crowning its own champion.

Apparently, the BCS adopts the NCAA findings, and will vacate a sanctioned team's title:

Quote
The actual policy reads:

“When the NCAA or a conference makes a finding of violations … and imposes a sanction of forfeiture or vacation of contests in which an ineligible student-athlete participated, we will presume that vacation of participation in a BCS bowl game is warranted.”

Link.

If Auburn DOES get that title as a result, they'll still be 11 behind us again.   ;D

AP poll has elected to keep USC as its national champion.  BCS committee is going to meet to figure out if it is going to strip USC.

Does anybody else find the retroactive vacating and tittle stripping lame?
