i was 100% in favor of trading ray, not because i did not love him as a player, but just because this team looked dead for much of the season, and he was the only viable, valuable trade chip, primarily because of his salary and expiring contract.

but he is a tremendous player, a class act, and we obviously are not here without him.

I was really pushing for it, but I'm glad it didn't happen. I can't believe the man is 34 nearing 35. He looks like he's in his mid twenties out there.

I never wanted to trade Ray, unless there was a trade that made us younger *and* better (or at least even).  That trade wasn't out there, and Danny made the smart move by standing pat.

I never understood the hand-wringing about not making a move.  There wasn't a player better than Ray on the market, and the guys who were about at his level weren't available.

I got suckered in the trade Ray Allen squad. Originally I was dead set against. Everyone was advocating 'Rebuilding' looking ahead with youth movement as if the season was over. Looking back, We all look like fools.

This is yet another example that Fans know little to nothing. C's fan are lucky to have a competent GM & Coach. And a great team to go along with.

I think Ainge needs to explore all sign and trade options with Ray Allen this offseason after the Celtics win it all.


Not because Ray is not playing at a high level, but because it is the smart thing to do with all older players.  Shop, but only buy when the price is right.

Seriously, nobody posting so far was on board with trading Ray? All the Kevin Martin, Monta Ellis, Andre Iguodala, and Caron Butler talk was on here for a reason. I am very happy Ray turned it around after the deadline, but at the time, any of those guys I listed above would have made many of us happy.

Ray clearly needs something for which to play- just like KG, Pierce, Sheed, and Rondo. The playoffs lit a fire under this team and I am just happy we have a chance at all of this again- and also hope we can sign Ray again for another couple of years.

Completely agree. I don't why People are fascinated with 'Rebuilding'. What's the allure? Ray would still be making 3's long after Rondo retires. Starting 5 chemistry is priceless. You can tweak the team with the draft (#19) and using the MLE wisely & give another shot at contending.

I wouldn't like this move.  Rondo and Tony playing together would be atrocious for our spacing, as both are very poor jump shooters.  Perk isn't a shooter, either, and KG doesn't have three point range.  That would leave Pierce as the only deep shooter on the floor.

At the same time, the second unit -- especially as it's constructed now -- doesn't need Ray's shooting quite as much, with Rasheed and Nate (and at times, Finley.)

Imagine if Boston would have traded Ray Allen (say to the Wizards for Butler) and then Ray was bought out and ended up back with the Celtics (sort of like what happened with Zydrunas Ilgauskas).

Then the Cs would be younger going into the future AND still have Ray Allen to be the Laker killer that he is.

Heck, Cs might be up 2-0 on the Lakers at this point, thanks to the gallant efforts of Caron Butler.  Who's to say otherwise?  In fact, there'd be a similar post up on celticsblog saying "Imagine if Boston hadn't traded (and then re-signed) Ray Allen?"
