Davis Perk Sheed and #19 to Toronto for Bosh cripples this teams front line defense and makes the Celtics a much worse team overall.
You have to be joking. There is no way TOR would do that trade and there is no way DA would say no. You don't pass on a superstar because you are worried about role players.

Sheeed was had for the MLE and pretty much hated all year for lack of effort on this board, BBD couldn't get an offer last year, and Perk while a very solid defender and big man, has some holes in his game to say the least. You could also try and move KG or you convince him that in 2008 he was Bill Russell for a year, but now he has to be Bill Walton, i.e. go to the bench and be 6th man of the year. Then you buy a pick (someone will be selling) to replace the one you traded and use the MLE and vet minimum to get a couple of big bodies.

You are 100% right.

And yet I'd still do this trade.

I never said I wouldn't do the trade. All I said is that it cripples the front line defense and makes the team worse.

That said, if the team decides after beating LA that the window is closed and they want to start to build towards something 2-4 years away, then this becomes viable. But if the goal is to make another run at the whole thing again next year, this is a bad trade for the club.

Well, regarding this year's offseason, I'm an optimist.

I think players will be willing to come here due to Doc being a pretty good guy, and the team having a good shot at winning.  Still, I don't expect people to jump at a chance to play for a discount.

But, optimistically, I think quite a few good rotation-caliber players will drop.  So many teams under the cap means fewer teams with the MLE, and I suspect teams w/space will blow it in the bidding frenzy for the small handful of players that are worth big deals, and many others will drop.  Hard.

Is it true that cash can be combined with a contract to match a salary?  i.e. BBD's $3 mil, plus $3 mil in cash = $6 million in salary coming back?

If so, imagine Wyc opening the checkbook to take on TWO MLE-level players this year, and costing us only BBD and some of Wyc's money.  Perhaps we get both much-loved Mike Miller AND either Outlaw or a guy like Al Harrington...  If PP and Ray play along by signing friendly deals in exchange for no-trade clauses, we're set.
No its not true.

Pee-smelly, bright yellow pee-right in my corn flakes...  Thanks.

Picks and cash both don't count for salary matching purposes.  Good to know...

Wyc is loaded...also good to know.

Once TA and Quisy's spot in the rotation is filled with the MLE (Mike Miller or equivalent), then either could be S&T'd w/BBD plus cash or a pick, if necessary, for BBD's more athletic MLE-level upgrade.

I think Lee is on the verge of being one of the most overpayed players in the NBA.

I like Lee and his game.

But he is a double double on a terrible team with no other big man.  If he get Rondo type money, he will be overpayed and no longer appreciated as much.

You may be right...

But I think he's at greatest risk to either fall in free agency or need a S&T to get above the MLE if he doesn't stay in NY.  Looking at the # of teams with big cap space, he's just too far down the list of talent.  I could see Miami taking him over Stoudemire and Boozer if Bosh falls through, though.

In addition to the falling factor, I think someone might jump on a guaranteed deal early rather than waiting for everything/everyone else to shake out, provided it's with a team they want to play for and it's well structured.  I'd probably call and offer him the MLE on July 1 just to see what he says...

Yeah I saw that after I responded. But still I think that team would have the chance to repeat. Bosh was the numero uno PF this year and he's a good defender on the pick and roll. I think you consider trading KG if you make that deal though. Who could you get for KG?

Plus I think you can get a solid center for MLE or less. Lineup would be something like:

Haywood, Bosh, Pierce, Ray, Rondo

with KG, Tony Allen, Nate off the bench. You'd basically upgrade from KG to Bosh and Rasheed to KG. Haywood isn't that big of a drop off at C from Perk. You will lose a lot from BBD to whatever vet minimum guy you bring in, i.e. Shelden.

I still think you could keep Wallace though - I'd have to think if a team would trade a stud for BBD and Perk, they'd rather have Tony Allen on a one year with a team option, then Wallace with two years left. Then maybe split the MLE to bring in a fourth big and improve the guard spot. I also think the team will be able to buy another pick.

KG has 2 years and $40 left on his contract. Given his up and down performance all year and in the post season and what could be a permanent severe decline in his game and uncertainty of health, I can't see anyone other than Washington willing to trade for KG and even then we would have to take Gilbert Arenas back. Yikes!!

Without Sheed in that deal I don't see us being able to match salary and if LA offers Bynum in a S&T for Bosh, I would think Toronto would want Bynum more than our package and Bosh would want LA more than Boston.

Well, it only cripples the front line D if you assume Danny makes no other moves afterwards. Which seems unlikely.

Either way though, it's a fantasy. Bosh is not coming to Boston under any circumstances.
