I'm not sure we can afford to not play him with all touch fouls being called but, he has to play some better minutes. The first in bounds pass Kobe stole and scored was one thing, he then did the same exact thing and lucky for the C's there wasn't any time left.  I think the moment got to him and he froze.  ' Fans ' need to realize how important being able to play on the big stage is.  That is certainly not something every player can do and the main reason the Sheed pick up was so big.  For all BBDs fault (few actually) he's never been a player that shies away from the moment. In fact he plays better in crucial situations.

Along with Ray and Rondo the bench was the 3rd portion of the big 3 tonight.

1-1

This is a very tough series for Shelden.

LA only uses three big men in it's regular rotation (Gasol/Bynum/Odom) and each of them is either a near All-Star quality player or a bonafide All-NBA talent. In terms of ability, Shelden is wholly out-classed. To make matters worse, Shelden has struggled against long seven footers (Gasol/Bynum) throughout his short NBA career.

This is just a horrible horrible matchup for Shelden Williams. He is a massive liability out there.

I might agree with you if the problems he presented in that short span actually had anything to do with those match-ups.

I was talking about the series in general rather than his performance last night ... last night's debacle was just a bunch of mental mistakes.

I don't think Shelden's inability to secure a rebound, secure a pass to him, and not pass to the other team had anything to do with matchups.  He just has terrible hands... has shown his bad hands all season.  And it doesn't look like he's cut out for the big stage.

Shelden Williams sucks period. I hope he isn't on the roster next season. Its too bad we are forced to play him with all the early foul trouble

I don't mind Shelden being called on as a last resort when the top 4 bigs are all in foul trouble, but he's got to not try to do so much.  The foul on Artest, the pass to Kobe...trying too hard.  Play within himself and make the simple play and he can fill some minutes if needed.

But I hope I don't have to see him in meaningful minutes again this series either.

I said it before and i'll say it again,i didn't understand the signing from the beginning. He wasn't a good bench player for one of the worst teams in the NBA,so what makes me think he was ever going to be a decent bench player for the Celtics.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
If I were him, I'd retire from basketball and just stick with my role on The Simpsons...

It's a bit harsh. Shelden is a decent fifth big to have. He shouldn't play in the finals, and Doc wouldn't put him in unless it's a blowout, but all four of our bigs were in foul trouble early on.

I agree.  Rondo was even calling for that ball off the rebound just before the half and he was looking up court to make a homerum play to TA.

I have to admit that I yelled at 'ol Admiral Ackbar after that one.

Lets all go over to that "Less minutes Sheed, more minutes Sheldon" thread that was happening.

Just came here to drop a huge I TOLD YOU SO.

theres a reason why THE SACRAMENTO KINGS didn't even want this guy.

Yup.  I was saying the same thing when people on this board were trying to say they'd rather have Shelden over Big Baby. ****.

When it comes to having the ball in the post or paint on offense, I have infinitely more faith in Shelden than I do in Davis.

I think he's been generally fine in the role that he's in and this is all an overreaction to 4 crappy minutes of basketball. Yeah this is the finals and those 4 minutes matter more than any other minutes he's played this season, but that's a pretty small sample size to use as the sole reason why you never want him to play for the Celtics again.
