I understand it might be a bit harsh, but what positive things can he contribute to cancel out his performance in game 2? There's nothing he can do to make up for it unless he has a powe finals game like performance in a game and that's unlikely to happen. When Paul Peirce or KG make a mistake, they are capable of having another game that will make up for a poor game, or making a play that will make up for a mistake, Shelden can't do that. When a player is already on the borderline of whether he deserves to be in the NBA or not, if he plays like he did for 4 mins, it's unforgiveable and it should punch his ticket out of the NBA. You give repeated chances to players that are talented and have a potential to be an above average player, does Shelden even have potential to be in the top 10 of a rotation?
it's not a microscope analysis here, he made 4 bad plays in a span of 4 minutes, and he has no chance of ever being a regular contributor for the Celtics. As much as Tony Allen has made boneheaded mistakes in the past, we knew that he could be a valuable contributor if he just had his head on straight, but unfortunately no matter how nice of a guy Shelden might be or how much of a hard worker he is, his maximum potential is not one that is a quality nba player.
If you are a fringe nba player and you play poorly in your minimal chances, then you will be out of the NBA. It might not be fair but that's just the reality. There's no microscopic analysis here, it's just how it is. He had his chance and he blew it and he should never sniff the court for the Celtics ever again.
I expect nothing out of our 5th big man. No positives and no negatives, he displayed way too many negatives in that one game, I just want a big man stiff who has composure who knows how to box out hard and foul smart. I say give a chance to another big man in the off season.
Maybe I'm overreacting by not ever wanting to see him play for the Celts again, but maybe you're being over protective over a 12th man?
