OKay I think most of us super intelligent boston Celtics fans can agree that when this team reabounds and limits turnovers, we are unbeatable.

Well in game 2 we need to limit the offensive rebounding of the Lakers. Their length killed us last night. I was surprised to see Bynum looking fairly healthy and I think it suprised Boston too. The bigs need help down there.

We saw it against Cleveland who is a great offensive rebounding team when Rondo supported the glass. We need the same effort from him Ray and Paul from here on out.

Even when LA didnt get the OR's, they disrupted outlet passes to Rondo and severely handicapped our running game after stops.

I think when Doc and Co. looks at the film they will see the same thing.

I am also hoping when the refs look at the film they will be counting to three. Seems they forgot how to do that last night.

you can analyze the game until you are blue in the face.....the bottom line is if the c's do not rebound, they will not win. they were outworked tonite, not to mention over the back apparently does not apply to bynum. kg and perk need to at least hold their own and rondo and PP need to contribute like they usually do. i do wish we had a dale davis type of bench player who can rebound. BBD usually does well on the offensive glass, but we need help mainly on the defensive glass.

When PP is your leading rebounder with 9, Rondo is your next leader with 6, and your starting center only has 3, you aren't going to win against a big team. Rebounding will be the key in this series and the reason we beat Orlando. KG and Perk need to step it up on the glass right now or this is over.

Other issues:

Rondo was poor last night. He was unable to exploit his matchups, unable to adjust, and took some really pathetic shots inside against bigs who repeatedly swatted his trash away. That is NOT going to get us a win.

TA was garbage out there. I wasn't impressed with his defense at all, and the rest of his offensive game right now is bad. We need to see Marquis on the floor, or at least Finley. If we aren't going to have him shut down a guy on defense, then at least lets bring in a guy like Finley who can stretch the defense.

BBD is not going to be effective in this series. He can't compete with their length. Sheed needs to play 30 minutes. He looked very good out there last night and gives them trouble. He and Nate were the only ones with a positive +/- on the floor.

This series isn't over, but if we drop game 2 it is pretty close to being over. We won't win 3 straight in Boston over this team. Down 3-2 (if we're lucky) going back to LA is not a winning formula.

Hey this is a rebounding thread! ;)

I agree BBD cannot play inside in this series. that being said if he can hit that midrange jumpshot along with KG, they should be able to pull those big guys out of the paint.

Which is why I led with rebounding!  ;D

BBD's stats show for his career that he can't hit that jumper consistently. He has been much worse this year with it than the year before. Sheed is a lot better shooter than BBD is from that mid range, so I just think like in '08 when Powe took his minutes against the Lakers, he needs to ride the pine unless he has one of those "on fire" nights. He just isn't big enough and can't jump either. Bad combo up against the Lakers.

You're probably right and good analogy to Powe. We just need to keep Perk out of foul trouble so a 3 big rotation works out.

I disagree that Baby won't be effective this series.  I though he and Rasheed were the only ones that guarded Gasol effectively.  Rasheed played him tough and Baby was able to keep him further away from the basket than Garnett was able to do.  That's why Doc stuck with Baby for a while.  Baby won't be able to do anything about him shooting over him, but at least make him shoot some jumpers than getting everything close to the hoop.

Yup, just like I said in the game thread before the game, you've got to rebound and hit your outside shots in order to win.

The Celtics failed on both accounts. I expect a better game 2.

Go Celtics!!

Can't use Finley in this series. He was in there for a couple of minutes and got completely torched.

i disagree about your assessment of rondo. i'm not saying he was good last night but when you dont rebound it's hard to push the ball/tempo and be aggressive. i also think kobe gaurding him slightly screwed him up mentally or something because he was giving up the ball a lot more than i remember. throw in ray's foul trouble really it explains why the offense had no "flow."

but rebounding last night was a BIG problem. it was shades of the regular season allover again. i dont know what the hell was wrong with kg last night but i can recall 3 different occasions where gasol literally took a rebound away from kg under the basket. 3 rebounds from kg will just not be good enough. ditto for perkins too. also, another interesting tidbit: of the c's 8 offensive rebounds they got a grand total of 0 2nd chance points. i think pathetic is a good word to use here but considering the funk the offense was in i'm not that surprised.

for the next game, the c's need to hit the boards early and establish themselves. in the words of cedric maxwell, they gotta "put a booty on that brotha." rebounding allows the c's to run and it allows for the court to be rondo's playgorund.

They need to fix the defense before they can even think about rebounding.  The problem has been that they have been slow on defense, which has left them scrambling, and out of position to rebound.  If they get their rotations back in order, the rebounding will come.

What i don't understand is, they obviously had to know going into this series that the key to beating the Lakers was by stopping them from dominating the glass like they have been doing against all the other teams. So for the C's to come out and STILL get dominated on the glass, says a whole lot about their effort. When you know what you have to do and still don't do it, that's pretty sad.

OP is absolutely 100% right. Boards were far and away the biggest issue last night.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
