I didn't see it in print, so I don't have a link, but I heard it on the radio this morning.  Good for Tibs. I think the Hornets were wrong for forcing him to give an answer when the Celtics are in the Finals.

Tibs got green blood going trough his veins right now, this is what he worked so [dang] hard all season long, I think he would refuse a chief spot in the white house right now :D

Well didn't the Hornets want him to leave the team right now if he accepted?

If that's the case who would leave a team before the Finals start?

I think CAA(his new representatives who also happen to rep Bosh, Wade and LeBron) are pushing hard for him to go to Chicago knowing that one of their clients will be heading there and the next coach of the Bulls will probably be very successful and be getting a nice fat extension contract in a couple of years. More money in Thibs pocket, the more money in theirs.

Remember the rumors of Doc leaving after this season? I expect Tibs to be the front runner for the vacant position.
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

Unless Thibodeau has another head coaching job lined up ... this is a very bad decision.

Bulls are supposed to be talking to Thibs today to get something done. Here's the thing though, they haven't asked permission to speak with him yet:

Link(Insider ESPN)

Quote
The Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday night that general manager Gar Forman and senior vice president John Paxson flew to Los Angeles to interview Boston assistant coach Tom Thibodeau concerning the vacant head coach position. Here's the problem, the Celtics have not been asked, nor have they given the Bulls the go ahead to speak with Thibodeau.

"I don't know a thing about it," Celtics' executive director for basketball operations Danny Ainge wrote in an email to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"Unless I'm missing something here, everything on the court involving the Boston Celtics -- personnel, coaches, support staff -- is under Danny's watch. Everything goes through him. That's just the way it is in our organization," said Jeff Twiss, Boston's vice president of media relations.

"If Danny doesn't know anything about it, quite simply, we're denying it," Twiss added. "I am very surprised. Times have changed, but there still are normal policies and procedures."

Not only does this violate league rules if the Bulls speak with Thibodeau without the Celtics consent, it is also bad form to interview a coach on the eve of the NBA Finals.

A source also tells the Sun-Times that Thibodeau's first choice is to coach the Celtics if Doc Rivers decides he wants to step down to spend time with his family in Orlando.

According to the Daily Herald, Forman and Paxson were going to wait to speak with Thibodeau until after the Finals, but that changed since Thibodeau has to make a decision regarding the Hornets by today.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I expect that the Hornets probably low balled him.

If TT is looking at a below average salary, and a terribly constructed roster that is on the down slope, I can see why he's hesitant to take the job, especially when they're giving him ultimatums.

Maybe he doesn't want to work for an organization that wants him to give them an answer while his team is in the Finals.  That's very unprofessional, imo.  Maybe they really didn't want him in the first place.  I can't imagine a team not waiting until the Finals are over if they really wanted him.

Also, when your future superstar player is already making grumblings about not wanting you there but wanting someone else there, that's a recipe for disaster. It's a good decision and if Chicago really wants him, that's his best landing spot.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I've been saying for weeks now if Thibs took the NO job, all it would boil down to is an unpleasant year and a half.

Chicago gives him a MUCH better chance.

It is a perfectly reasonable stance to take.

If the Hornets wait another 10-14 days for the Finals to end they risk other teams filling their head coaching vacancies and missing out on some of the best coaches that are currently available.

This was a huge issue two years ago when several teams wanted to interview Thibodeau but wouldn't wait until after the finals to select their head coach ... so they moved on in another direction without talking to him. It's something you regularly see teams do.

Thibodeau was looking at offers of around $1.5 million per annum last offseason ... and knowingly so was happy to be in consideration and aggressively pursuing the Kings job at that price.

I can't see the finances being an issue here unless he is receiving bad advice from his agent.

Thibs is a first time head coach who has been an assistant for close to twenty years without getting a head coaching offer before ... he is looking at one of the lowest salaries in the league no matter where he goes.

My guess is that when it came down to it he wasn't comfortable with the roster, GM, or owner.

I can't blame him on any of those fronts, but its a very risky move for him to make. I understand it though, he's a 20 year long assistant coach. That means he'll likely only get one bit at the apple.
