The Wizerds want rid of Arenas and his contract?  The Sixers want rid of Brands contract.  This trade (Jodie Meeks and Elton Brand for Gilbert Arenas) leaves both teams with big contracts, but it allows them to make room for bringing in the #1 and #2 overall picks respectively.

Washington gets Arenas out of the way so John Wall can be the man.  They add Brand, who can at least rebound for them and give them solid minutes when he is healthy.  They have some pretty thin guys up front and Brand would give them more beef there.

Philly brings in a more dynamic scorer than what they would get by drafting Evan Turner.  They would be able to draft Derrick Favors and not be worried about Brand being in the way of playing time.  Arenas could probably fit in with Jrue Holiday in the backcourt.  Thadeus Young could come off the bench behing Favors and Igoudala, or Young could start at the 4 and Favors could backup the 4/5.

I think this idea is actually a good one in theory, but I think Philadelphia and Washington really want to dump the players for expiring contracts, or young prospects.

If they are looking to get older talent that would fit in with the #1 and #2 picks I think this would be pretty good.  I am also wondering how much Brand has left in the tank.  If he can return to his 20-10 form than this might make a lot of sense for the teams.

I think that makes too much sense to happen.

It would make sense - Philly could live with Arenas - he wouldn't be in the way of their younger guys and would actually fit into their team. It would also give a chance for Philly to rehabilitate Arenas and get more than they'll get for Brand, who I'm sure will look bad in either system. They could work Jrue, Young, and Favors all into the mix around regardless of who starts. They could also still take Turner and trade Iggy - who probably has pretty good value.

For WAS I like it even more - they get rid of Arenas' baggage before he starts impacting Wall's development and bring in a post guy and all around good guy who should help. For some reason I invision them playing slower pace than Philly, which would help Elton. Again same idea - they can feature Brand and try and get his trade value up.

They don't want to draft Turner because they already have a SG they want starting so they trade for Gilbert?

I don't think there is a chance Gilbert gets traded this offseason.

Bad trade for both teams

Phily takes on a bigger contract and stunts the growth of Jrue Holiday while Washington take on an even bigger liability in Brand.
