Congratulations to All..I certainly learned something from putting together a team..this game and Roy's were the first "Fantasy" games I have played in - ever.

Great Learning experience for me.

Sincerest congratulations to all the winners and participants ... as Nick stated, everyone had at least one Top-5 vote in one category ... that's pretty cool, and shows the level of basketball expertise shared by our members.

Also huge kudos to Nick, who put in an immense amount of work to insure this was an outstanding success all-around ... one of CB's best, who demonstrated again why he commands the respect he does here. Great game!

By the way, Nick ... put me on the list for next year, this was too much fun to not be an owner, and like GreenFaith1819, the only fantasy sports I've been part of was Roy's Pick-Two Draft, (which I hope is perennial as well).

Awesome job, everyone!

I can't believe I didn't crack the top three for defense.

But seriously this was a lot of fun, thanks to everyone that participated in some capacity and huge props to Nick for putting it together.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Some of the results were wacky, no doubt.  I had you #2 in defense, and Golden State #2 overall...  and neither of you made the top three in those categories.

I'll pile on and throw out my thanks to Nick. This was an absolute ball; so much fun to compare the players of the past twenty years and how they'd play together/against each other.

Also, tip of the hat to both co-owners and panelists. I thought the general atmosphere of the draft was great: Nothing but positive things to say.

One extremely minor complaint: KG best PF of the era, but not First Team ALL NBA?

Remembering that I didn't vote because I was an owner, but if I did, my top three in each category(not including the Utah Jazz):

Best team

1.) Philadelphia 76ers - while I didn't love Philly's depth, I thought their starting five the best non-Jazz starting unit in the league. Also, I think they had the best coach which matters to me.

2.) Milwaukee Bucks- lacking of offense from the center position and defense at the SF position kept them out of the top spot but otherwise one of the two deepest teams in the league

3.) Portland Trail Blazers - seriously under rated club. I happen to love Kevin Willis at the center spot and because of that think this team is formidable. A defensive monster of a team that has some good offense and one of the best floor generals ever.

Best Defensive Team

1.) Portland Trail Blazers - Stockton/Bell/LeBron/Rodman/Willis all in their prime. I don't see a better defensive unit than that anywhere

2.) New Jersey Nets - their front court interior defense is awesome but I think Billups and Hamilton are only solid and not spectacular defensively and McHale wasn't the McHale of the early 80's. He would definitely have trouble with some of the perimeter stretch 4's that teams could throw out there.

3.) San Antonio Spurs - another great defensive team. Where they fall short, no pun intended is in Hardaway at the point and young Kobe at SG. Kobe of 2002-03 wasn't nearly the defender he was later on.

Best Offensive Team(okay I'm clueless how Utah didn't win this)

1.) Golden State Warriors - outside shooters, great post scoring and an absolute warrior as a PG

2.) Philadelphia 76ers - tremendous balance and just about everybody on that team's top 10 players are way, way above average to great passers. The difference between GSW and Philly here was very very slight, like probably Isiah over the Glove slight on the offensive end.

3.) Chicago Bulls - call me nuts but David Robinson/Antawn Jamison/Stephen Jackson/Ray Allen/Jason Kidd is an unbelievable offensive starting 5.

Lack of voting in that category SO. I think in the best PF category there were like 20 or more votes but in the All-NBA category there were just 6 votes.

I took "best offensive team" to mean "which team will score the most points".  I figured the offenses with the great point guards running the show would be the best in transition, and would score the most.

I may be underrating Mark Price and Terry Porter, but I see Utah as more of a half-court team, whereas Boston and Milwaukee are more run-oriented.  The tie-breaker was "If team X gets in a shootout with team Y, which team would win?"  I don't think Utah would win in a high-scoring games against most of the teams I voted for top offensive team.

That said, I liked Utah better as a "sum of its parts".  I didn't have them in the top five in terms of either offense or defense, but I did think they were almost perfectly balanced, and thus voted them in my top three.

See, that's where I think we differ. When I would look at offensive team I would look at efficiency. Like last year. Portland only scored 99.8 PPG but had the second highest team offensive efficiency of the last 8 years at 110.7 PP100P. I don't think a team has to be a great running team or a high scoring team to be a great offensive team.

I think when it came down to it great offensive team to me meant what team was going to be hardest to stop score a basket. Funny thing about great high scoring teams is a great defense can stop them. A great(efficient) offense can still put up points, regardless of style.

I can see both sides of the debate however.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words. This wasn't nearly as much work as it was a labor of love. I am a huge fan of NBA history reading as many books as I can(even Laker biographies) on the subject. I wanted to do this so bad and now that I have, I can't wait to try it again next year.

Brush up on you 80's basketball people and it will be a heck of a ride.

Just want to thank everyone who voted for me and pretty honored to take "Best Overall Team".

I loved this idea and it was great to go back and look over some of the older players from the era and realize just how good they were.  Looking forward to the next historical draft.

Thanks again.
