Barnes is an ok defender. But everything else in his game is trash and he will want to much money. Not to mention he wants to start.

Barnes would be cool for about 1.5-2.5 million per year, and for only 2-3 years.

But its a moot point, because he has no interest in the northeast. (I could see a Lebron in NYK as the only exception, so that he can get more attention.)

The most overrated non-Celtic strikes again.

I rather just keep Scali.  Get a true SF to backup Pierce.

For the vet minimum?  Sure.  Otherwise, I don't have a ton of interest in Barnes.

Word...and his comment is:

Quote
"As for me and my contract situation, I'm going to opt out," Barnes told the Orlando Sentinel. "Always worrying about the team and stuff like that is something you have to do during the season, and I'm 100 percent with that. But now it's about me and my family and what's best for us. I've expressed throughout the season that I've loved my time here and would love to return. But I think I know more than anybody that this is a business. The organization has to do what's best for the team. Hopefully, I impressed them enough to bring me back and give me something decent, but we'll have to wait and see about that."

So I have my doubts on how far the vet min is going to get you with this guy.

Oh, without a question he opted out to get a big payday.  He has been trying (unsuccessfully) to get paid since his breakout year with the Warriors.  I also think he has zero interest in playing in the Northeast.  I am convinced it would take any team up here to dramatically overpay him to convince him to come up here.  And in the meantime, there should be just as good, if not better players available for close to the vet minimum.

I think this is spot on.  Barnes would be nice off the bench for the right price, but he won't come at that price, so ... pass.
Celtics fan for life.

I guarantee you could get a large portion of our own fan base to agree with a BBD for Barnes swap.  Not even taking into account the age difference some would see it as upgrade in talent...
The only fan base that might agree to that is the one watching the Celtics during the Red Sox commercial breaks.

He actually has more skills, but is the starting C on that most overrated non-celtic team.

I remember reading somewhere when he was a free agent a while back that he prefers to play for a team in a warm climate city.  Doesnt necessarily mean it's true, but judging from the decisions he's made in the past, it looks that way.

He's not worth it.  With the money we'd have to pay him, we could land someone like Travis Outlaw whos younger and more dynamic, or Mike Miller, who may not be the defender Barnes is, but gives 110%, is a much more refined offensive player, and probably a better team guy.

I wouldn't mind Barnes.  He opted out of $1.8 million to seek greener pa$ture$, but I doubt the market gives him more than some part (say half) of the MLE.  The Magic will let the market dictate his value, like we did with Baby, and offer him a tad more.  But I wouldn't mind him, if (1) we still need a wing after #19 (as someone said), and (2) we decide to split the MLE.

I'd like to see some concrete alternatives, instead of vague references to the availability, in our price range, of supposedly better choices. :-X Miller, at least, will get twice as much money as Barnes.  I dunno about Outlaw.

That would mean a large portion of our fan base has no idea what's going on.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Platoon him with TA and we wouldn't need a backup PG.  I think Barnes would work well with TA - in the way that Marquis / Finley didn't.  We wouldn't have to use the whole MLE on him, either.

This assumes we don't use #19 on a wing, in which case I think we should just play the youngster.

Finley didn't work well with TA?  I thought he did
