It's all over ESPN. Pierce looks into the camera and states that the Boston crowd won't let the Celtics relax and that the Celtics are coming home to close it out. When informed of Pierce's remarks Howard said the following:

"They only won two games. I mean, they can write what they want but, you know, we gonna stay humble, stay focused and.......you know, pride comes before a fall."

How prophetic, huh Dwight?

You interview yourself. You interview yourself dressed and acting like Clark Kent and Superman. Then you lose the first two games of the ECF at home.

Maybe he should have stayed humble and checked that pride and ego at the door when the people at ESPN and ABC asked him to do that stupid interview? What do you think Dwight? Maybe next time, take your own advice?

Nice observation, nick.

I also think that it's about time Dwight moved on from quoting the Bible, considering that out-of-wedlock child he recently had with a Magic dancer.  I'm pretty sure that the New Testament has a thing or two to say about hypocrisy.

In defense of Pierce's comments I don't think they plan on coming home to give some games to the Magic.

My lasting image from the game was after a late Magic run to cut the lead to one, out of a time out they show Howard smiling and saying something to someone in the crowd before a teammate came over to tell him (I assume) to focus on the game.  That in a nutshell is what at this point keeps Howard from reaching his true potential.  Contrast that to Pierce and KG who'd be perfectly happy to skin you alive if it means winning the series.

That's why Howard's not 'there yet' in terms of reaching his true potential -- and if that doesn't change he probably won't ever get there.

Clearly Howard was tired of getting hacked himself so he set something up to hack Pierce and throw some false motivation out there.

Was that "someone" Carlos Boozer?

What was Boozer doing down in FLA?

DWade & Booze teaming up next year perhaps?

I did not know about this! I have heard stories from the realgm forums about him trying to convert a **** star into a wholesome  christian-type. Though it must be said I don't know if there's a shred of truth behind this.

Here's the story on sbnation;

I don't see this as PP being arrogant. He didn't guarantee they would close it out. The media is going to take this out of context in the next few days.

Oh Boy - is this that Twittergate thread that I have been dreading.

If Pierce really did say that, I think he was trying to challenge the Boston crowd to bring energy to the Garden in games three and four.

Howard has to bide his time and do the best he can against Perkins, Garnett, BBD, and Sheed.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

I heard that comment as well.

I really respect the life Dwight is trying to lead - he's not perfect, but I believe he does have a relationship with God. I do think that he could've found a better comeback than that, though.

I did lose some respect for his takedown of Pierce, but I forgive him for it. He needs to do better than that, though.

Dwight - look at David Robinson..even at David's worst times in the NBA, he always let his game do the talking - and boy did he. He was one of my favorite players, even in college.

What really struck me with David Robinson is when he played against Hakeem. After Houston beat San Antonio, David gave all respect to Hakeem, and didn't make any excuses for his play.

What Dwight has to realize is that Pierce still remembers Last Year. Our Big Dog was hurt, but yet we still gave ORL almost too much to handle.

If Dwight did a full reflection of his team right now - he'd ask his team to play better, even though The Celtics Defense is scrambling nearly every attempt for them to do that.

Dwight is still young, and I believe he will get better. He's still prone to mistakes in the game and in life.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
When asked how His Son felt about Dwight Howard's game, God said, "John 11:35."

"It was easier to know it than to explain why I know it."

Tommy point. Howard's gospel act is really grating considering the number of cheap shots he gives out on the court.
