CLEVELAND TRADES:
Sign & Trade Shaq
Mo Williams

WASHINGTON TRADES:
Gilbert Arenas

Why It Works for Cleveland:
Their chances of keeping Lebron aren't looking to shabby - they need to shake things up a bit and take some gambles. What's a bigger gamble than Arenas? He's former elite player, maybe a change of scenary would do him so good. The risk could be just enough to entice LBJ to stay. If he returns to form, Lebron would finally have the Robin to his Batman.

Mo Williams has proven 2 postseasons in a row that he just doesn't perform well - consistently - on the big stage. He could play successfully behind John Wall (if Washington selects him)

Why it doesn't Work for Cleveland:
Arenas still has A LOT of contract left, worth A LOT of money. If he's a bust, he'll be a collosal bust.

Why it Works for Washington:
Assuming they draft Wall #1 overall - and they should - there'd be no real place for him in Washington's rebuild plans.

You can add Shaq to the mix for some veteran leadership and possibly as a mentor to Andray Blatche.

Why it doesn't Work for Wash:
I really can't think of a reason - Mo Williams no longer has the pressure of the playoffs and could be a decent scoring option.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

Why would Washington want a 6 foot tall SG in Williams when they are drafting a 6'4" Wall?

Bad trade for Washington. No value for Gilbert

Do you think there's any trade out there where they'd get value for Gilbert?

Two major injuries, plus a felony conviction and problems in the locker room.  For all that, you have the privilege of paying him on a huge, long-term contract.

Exactly.
The real real "value" here for Washington is getting out from under that contract.

Honestly, Arenas doesn't have any real value on the market at the moment.

I'd go further than that.  I'd probably call him the most untradeable player in the entire NBA.  He's got 4 years, $80 million left on his deal, at a time when the league is in recession and facing an unknown salary structure under a new CBA.

Yes I do. You let him play half a year and trade him at the deadline when he's having a good year.

Up until the time of the gun incident, it was pretty clear Gilbert had come back from his injuries. Someone is going to be stupid enough to take on his salary next year because they need scoring punch for the playoffs.

They will be able to do better than a 40 year old Shaq and Mr. No Show in the Playoffs Mo Williams.

That type of team looking for scoring punch in the playoffs are probably title contenders who'd likely be in luxury tax territory... No way someone agrees to pay his nearly $20m a year salary + lux tax just for some extra scoring punch.

I can't think of a single team that would give value for a player who puts up 22 points / 7 assists with no leadership who is playing on a $20 million per year contract.

You mean the Knicks trade?
T-mac was an expiring contract... Nowhere near the same as a 4 yr, $80m commitment

?

What Tmac trade are you talking about?  The one where he was an expiring contract?  How is that remotely similar to an $80 million contract?

I don't know, nick.  Normally I can see where you're coming from, but I think you're way off here.  Arenas is as untradeable a player as there currently is in the NBA.  He may be traded, but if he is, it will be for garbage.  In fact, I doubt very much they could get anybody as good as Mo Williams for him.  They'd be very, very fortunate if they could dump him for expirings, but I don't think that's a possibility.

They have Calderon at PG and Derozan to develop at SG.
Where would he fit?

When they lose Bosh they will have no one there to sell tickets to see. Soft front court players and no real marketable players. Boring team. They will suck big time.

If they are going to be married to 4 years and $20 million and suck, they may as well be playing Gilbert and selling tickets and sucking than paying Hedo and Bargnani and being boring and soft and sucking.
