What the heck has happened to him on the offensive end? I am not talking about scoring points, because I really do not think it matters if Perk scores. However, The regression this year is astounding. I am at the point where I pretty much expect a bad shot or turnover every time he gets the ball. In addition, he reallly does move on his screens and needs to learn to stop. Finally, right now he may be the worst free throw shooter in the NBA. All of that said, He and Sheed were the two key reasons this team was able to win today. Keep up the great work on D Perk, but please don't even look for the ball on offense.

Great win today and sorry, but I just had to get this off my chest.

Perkins is an outstanding defensive center.

But ... his glaring regression offensively this season has pushed me to wonder if we shouldn't dangle him in the off-season in an attempt to get younger at the 3 or 4.

It's a risk - you can't go inside with Garnett and Sheed without a third big body banger to come in and defend.

But there will be teams out there looking for that kind of defense at the 5 - defense that is going to get awfully expensive fairly soon for a guy with Perkins' horrible hands.

  • Rondo = Good
I think when he got the knee injury it really hurt him offensively.  He was in such a rhythm scoring early in the season but then he just lost the elevation and fluidity that allowed him to score like that; I have to think it was because of this lingering knee issue.  Now that he's been out of rhythm and rarely used on offense for a while he's unsure what to do with it when he gets it.

Perk is Fine. IMO, I think the issue this season is that he is adjusting to KG's steady improvement, as well as the addition of Sheed.

Perk proved to me last year in the playoffs that he can score around 12-14 pts - he may not have the most polished offensive game, but he was getting it done.

Even this year, in the regular season, he was rather torrid - averaging around 13-14 pts per game. But as Sheed played more and KG rounded into shape, of course Perk became just a Defensive Center.

Perk adds more to this team than just points - he is a presence. His value to us is a Lot more than just the box score.

I really believe that as KG gets older the offense in the Post will shift back to Perk a little more. I believe this will start next season.

KG will get him involved more. We had Rondo display his skills this year, and next year will be the Year Of The Beast. I really feel that.

I cannot disagree with those who may want to trade him, but this happens I really question if we can get back equal worth for him.

Howard is also a monster on defense. Howard can swat Perks little hooks. Perk is relegated to purely garbage man on offense against Orlando, and that is fine. Our offense isn't built around him, except as a guy who sets picks.

Why trade Perk? Howard will remain in Orlando, so we want to be able to match up in the playoffs.

And btw, Perk is not any worse than Howard or Shaq at FT shooting.

I don't get the logic of trading Perk when he plays his role so well. Who do you think he could be replaced with?

Good Point, Pos - I forgot about Perk's Knee issue.

We don't count on Perk for offense - he's a defensive minded Center. He's our enforcer, that's what we need him to be - that's his role.

I have new issues with Perk at the moment. He pretty much shutdown Dwight today (with some help from Sheed). As long as he continues to do that, I have zero complaints.

The only explanation is his knee problems. After the all-star game, Knee started to flare up & it took his offense with him. He doesn't even dunk as much, and not enough push to shoot FT. Every aspect of his game offensively has been effected. I don't remember if it was a Rondo or KG pass, Perk had an opportunity to dunk but didn't. The knee is definitely as issue. That said, Doc is doing great job keeping his minutes down to avoid further injuries.

The problem is that Perk's offensive game has deteriorated so much that he can't even take out the garbage on offense.  Fumbled passes, boards and extremely slow reaction times almost made him an offensive negative.  He's really been stinking it up offensively for the whole playoffs.

Doesn't seem like the team is going to Perk inside as much anymore, which is fine by me since I think he's a black hole once the ball's in his hands.

Maybe his offensive production started to take a hit when Rondo started becoming a beast? I dunno. The first part of the season Perk was putting up OK numbers, and then practically nothing.

The only thing that drives me crazy about Perk is his consistent moving pick calls on the perimeter. (BBD too for that matter) How hard is it to realize that you have got to stand still on those picks and if the guy doesn't end up getting picked it is the person with the balls fault, not yours. It drives me crazy. This puts us in the penalty earlier in the quarter, and is the main reason that he is always in foul trouble.

As far as the offense goes, I am fine with it as is. He gets some garbage points, nothing more. I don't want him being aggressive against Howard. He won't do well with that.

Yeh, Perk wasted two good fouls on offense today.  He needs them to use on Howard (not to mention the loss of possession involved with them).  Perk should never have a foul called on him outside the paint.

Yup

It's not the scoring I am concerned about as much as it is the turnovers. He had 5 today -- 2 on illegal screens -- and three where he simply lost the ball. I honestly don't care if he doesn't score a point, but if he also commits 5 turnovers, then that could become an issue.

I've no idea what you're talking about. Perkins shot .600 from the field this year, and he did it on more shots than in either of the previous two seasons.

If you expected to see him take it to Howard in the post -- sorry, that's not going to happen. I thought, however, that the fact that he took and drilled a jumper was great.

As I have been reminded numerous times by many on this board, the regualr season does not matter. I am talking about the postseason here. I am also focusing more on his turnovers and horrrendous free throw shooting, which has gotten so bad that the Celtics cannot keep him in at the end of a close game, even if they need him for his defense.
