he for real that Browns already been fired?  Talk about a heat of the moment decision by the owner if that is true. Kinda feel bad for the guy ,  hes not much of a jerk,  just a really dumb coach

Mike Brown is a pretty classy guy, but if he wants to get another HC job this series, and subsequent firing (although by no means is he actually fired yet..I think that's hyperbole..but he WILL be fired) will be a black mark on his resume for a while.

speaking of Simmons's twitter... haven't seen much mention to the fact he started a "celtics chants" twitter account... and it actually worked.  twitter.com/celticschants ... he started the "new York knicks" chant tonight.  I think it's kinda cool.  He's got a lot of power now if it keeps working.

Where is his 'I'm sorry' tweet?  He thought we will lose to Miami.

Well Simmons latest...

Quote from: sportsguy33
Last 3 games = top-5 most shocked I've ever been by sports. Need a week to figure out what just happened. Happy though. Bring on Orlando!

But really he comes closest to the heart of the matter in his Game 5 ESPN running diary.

"...The Celtics were playing with passion and purpose again, two qualities that had been dormant from Christmas through Easter. I hadn't just written them off; I kind of hated them. I couldn't believe that a team just two seasons removed from such a special title season would mail in a half-season like that. The halcyon days of ubuntu were long gone. When I predicted them to lose to Miami in Round 1, my cagey readers thought it was a reverse jinx. Nope. I really thought we would lose. The Celtics had given me no reason to think they might show up for the playoffs. None.

There are three types of sports fans: hopelessly devoted, rationally passionate and irrationally passionate. I am the latter. I overreact to big wins. I fly off the handle with bad losses. When things are going wrong with one of my teams, I become exceedingly sarcastic and biting (as anyone who reads me can attest). That's just my DNA. I can't help it. I am a full-fledged, unapologetic over-reactor. That's my mental process for following sports. My father is much more loyal and rational; with the Celtics these past three years, any time we stunk, he was always the one with the cooler head telling me, "We'll be fine, we're gonna win the next one." So the following moment was a big deal: On Sunday, my father sold his Game 4 tickets back to the team online for face value. He didn't want to pay for what threatened to be another stinkbomb, saying simply, "I'd rather watch Game 4 at home for free." The 2009-10 Celtics had knocked the faith out of an exceedingly faithful man. It wasn't worth $550 to him (a lot of money, by the way) to see if the Celtics might show up.

Here's the point: Neither of us even remotely saw Sunday and Tuesday coming. I thought the Celtics would roll over on Sunday and lose Game 5. End of story, end of season. Then Rondo played the game of his life, and Pierce/Allen caught fire in Game 5, and suddenly it was halftime and I was sitting there thinking, "Holy ----, are we about to murder professional basketball in Cleveland?" "

(Emphasis mine.)

Maybe it's my growing hatred for him, but I don't buy this. I think he's 100% a band wagon fan, and he wrote this piece because he's very much aware of how he's now percieved in Boston.

I was annoyed that his chants caught on at the end of the game. Both because of the way he's bashed this team all season, as well as the fact that the chant OBVIOUSLY should've been 'N-Y-C'

I don't even know if it's a conscious thing with him. My theory is that he's been living too long in LA and has adopted the fundamental principle of that city: say only what is advantageous for you to say, regardless of what you really believe.

Simmons' road to fame was made in part with a "long-suffering Sox/Pats fan" persona, and also was made by his loyalty to the Celtics, who were never really hated even when they were good. Now that those teams won (and people hate all of them), he occasionally has to cater to that group of readers.

He's like the politician who tacks left/right based on the opponent and the feelings of the voters.

It wasn't that surprising ( that's his cop out) unless you have never played the game and use stats like Per and Pt diff to determine who's going to win a series.

Boston has boatloads more talent.  The series should have been over in 5.

5 of 6 games double digits leads.

If he would just admit that he knows nothing I would be cool with him giving up his opinions.

He quit on Doc and KG 2 years ago in the playoffs now he's surprised they are winning again.  BS he's clueless.

The "New York Knicks" chant, he had already talked about ahead of time.  Did his Twitter account *really* make that happen at that moment?  I have a hard time believing BOSTON fans were checking their Twitter feeds at that particular moment.

Now, fans in Los Angeles...  that I could believe.

Sorry, but any real/true Celtics fan, like myself, despises Bill Simmons.

He's such a flip flopper and doesn't believe that Doc Rivers is a good coach.

He was a hater when Ainge pulled the trigger to land Ray and he was a hater of Rondo's during the championship season.

He didn't think PJ Brown would contribute during the championship season nor did he think Sheed COULD turn it around this season come playoff time.

He's a hater until they win it all, and even then he's reluctant to apologize and give credit when it's due.

I don't like Simmons, but I disagree that "true" fans can't like him.  There's no one thing that defines a "true" or "real" fan, and no individual fan / poster is the arbiter of everyone's likes and dislikes.

And I will go a step further to say that a lot of "true" fans have agreed with a lot of what Simmons has said.  A true fan does not necessarily mean they are an optimist.
