So this season, Simmons has been either critical of the Celtics or quiet on the subject. But Game 5 was too good to be ignored.

Everyone will discuss LBJ-Brown postgame but let the record show KG-PP-Allen-Rondo were all tremendous in this game. Broke Cleveland's will.

Quote from: sportsguy33
LBJ was perplexingly + indefensibly awful tonight. RT @bugdust11: When will you start to question LBJ? Not being a jerk, an honest question.

Breaking news: ESPN's Ric Bucher reports that Cleveland has fired head coach Mike Brown.

I kept refreshing the page all night to see what his thoughts were.  I wasn't offended by his proclamations that Cle would kill us.  I agreed with him.  Nothing this team did in the regular season made them seem capable of beating the Cavs.  So Simmons' comments made logical sense.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Ugh sports guy. I cannot bring myself to feel good about your shinanigans. You play yourself off as the everyman fan living a dream but you turn your back on your team. We here at Celticsblog bicker and fight over common posters saying "They're not good enough to win a chip", which is COMPLETELY justified considering the regular season we all saw, but you sportsguy...you're not JA freakin Adande, you're not Ric Bucher...you're the Boston Sports Guy...you can say "I'm concerned"..you can say "I don't like the effort I'm seeing"...but for gods sake you cannot just proclaim us dead in the playoffs.

Find me 3 posters on this blog with 300 posts or more who aren't saying this team is capable of winning the series right in front of them. Try it. They might not say we're gonna win it all, but they NEVER ever sell us short.

And I don't care if its a schtick or a reverse jinx or a David Stern by way of ESPN mandated official opinion...I can say with absolute certainty, you're more than welcome to jump on this bandwagon, but those of us who have had our seats here for a while...we don't care if you're here or not.

/rant on Bill Simmons

EDIT: and Metroglobe....touche sir. You have just proven me wrong.

Yeah, I agree. I felt the same way. Thought he was over the top with his Miami will beat Boston prediction but the logic underpinning it was sound.

SportGuy is Funny, but at least he did give us some props. Well-Written Post by IP, also.

First we have Common predicting a Celtics Win in June..now we have Spike Lee of all people HOPING that Boston wins, because he believes that Lebron will bolt CLE and come to his beloved Knicks.

Strange times, indeed.

If I had a twitter account I'd @sportsguy33, "Not reminiscent of Game 6 vs. Los Angeles?"

Quote from: sportsguy33
Unbelievable. The Cavs players/coaches rolled over and quit in the final minute. Never seen anything like it. They wanted out of there.

Also...

This needs to be said by JVG or Jax: Through 23 quarters of play, Rajon Rondo has been the dominant player in this series.

Things I thought I'd never tweet again: "Kevin Garnett has taken over!"

Classic Trick or Treat Tony half: Great energy, solid D, has best dunk of the playoffs, misses 2 easy layups. He's something.

Where is his 'I'm sorry' tweet?  He thought we will lose to Miami.

He was live in studio with Dennis and Callahan this morning and when they asked him about how bad Mike Brown has been as a coach in this series he made a snide remark about Doc's coaching. Then in his typical snotty, arrogant, flippant way that he does Callahan finally said something I agree with:

" Gessh, he's still taking shots at Doc??? (Pause) Doc has been a great coach here over the last...."

Then Simmons cut him off with his backpedalling.

Well Simmons latest...

Last 3 games = top-5 most shocked I've ever been by sports. Need a week to figure out what just happened. Happy though. Bring on Orlando!

But really he comes closest to the heart of the matter in his Game 5 ESPN running diary.

"...The Celtics were playing with passion and purpose again, two qualities that had been dormant from Christmas through Easter. I hadn't just written them off; I kind of hated them. I couldn't believe that a team just two seasons removed from such a special title season would mail in a half-season like that. The halcyon days of ubuntu were long gone. When I predicted them to lose to Miami in Round 1, my cagey readers thought it was a reverse jinx. Nope. I really thought we would lose. The Celtics had given me no reason to think they might show up for the playoffs. None.

There are three types of sports fans: hopelessly devoted, rationally passionate and irrationally passionate. I am the latter. I overreact to big wins. I fly off the handle with bad losses. When things are going wrong with one of my teams, I become exceedingly sarcastic and biting (as anyone who reads me can attest). That's just my DNA. I can't help it. I am a full-fledged, unapologetic over-reactor. That's my mental process for following sports. My father is much more loyal and rational; with the Celtics these past three years, any time we stunk, he was always the one with the cooler head telling me, "We'll be fine, we're gonna win the next one." So the following moment was a big deal: On Sunday, my father sold his Game 4 tickets back to the team online for face value. He didn't want to pay for what threatened to be another stinkbomb, saying simply, "I'd rather watch Game 4 at home for free." The 2009-10 Celtics had knocked the faith out of an exceedingly faithful man. It wasn't worth $550 to him (a lot of money, by the way) to see if the Celtics might show up.

Here's the point: Neither of us even remotely saw Sunday and Tuesday coming. I thought the Celtics would roll over on Sunday and lose Game 5. End of story, end of season. Then Rondo played the game of his life, and Pierce/Allen caught fire in Game 5, and suddenly it was halftime and I was sitting there thinking, "Holy ----, are we about to murder professional basketball in Cleveland?" "

(Emphasis mine.)

[dang] you Walker Wriggle. [dang] you.

Just when I thought I was out, he pulls me back in...not to the point where I religiously read every column in my number 33 simmons jersey underroos (what, you guys don't have those?), but at least to the point when I no longer harbor ill will that eventually he will be a guest commentator on my local sports channell to tell me how the semi pro lacrosse team in Oneonta, NY is doing.

two things: one, if he were a CB poster regularly, we'd all have gotten into a internet urination contest with him at some point. two, I understand a little and I accept your pretend apology Bill Simmons. Kinda.

he posted that in the middle of the 4th quarter for game 5 when we were blowing them out... it was a joke.
