I'm not really into trade ideas, but i remember Memphis was looking for a defensive center. IMO, Perk is just about our only trade chip. Maybe we could work some type of trade out with Memphis to move up and get some young talent.

Perk + 19th pick - Sam Young, Hasheem Thabeet, & 12th pick

Sam Young fills a need for us, an athletic SF who defends, but is a bit redundant in the Grizzlies lineup with Gay & Brewer covering the position. Perk is what they hope Thabeet can someday become a top defensive center in his prime. Thabeet is a rawer Perk, but could be better in the future. Fair trade for both

Perk + 19th pick (filler if needed(Sheed)) - Gay/Mayo(fillers if needed)

This one is just wishful thinking, but it's a possibility. Rudy Gay is a restricted free-agent coming off a big season. The Grizzlies are a small market team maybe they won't be willing to pay for two wing scorers. I think either one of these players would be great alongside Rondo(Mayo would be in our best interest).

With the 1st trade we fill a need at SF without leaving anyholes, and come out with a lotto pick to use on the BPA. The 2nd trade we give Rondo a go to scorer to play with for years to come. If we get Mayo we maintain a lot of our cap flexibility till 2012 (correct me if I'm wrong).

Not going to trade Perk for two done nothing players just to move up 5 spots in the draft.

It's 7 spots, actually.

But anyways, I don't think you can do much better than a lotto pick and two solid rookies (one who happens to be a lotto pick himself) for a role playing center like Perk. I think Thabeet could be what Perk is with some time, and Sam Young can be a rotation player/starter in this league. Two solid young guys a lotto pick along with the 19th would be nice jump start on rebuilding.

Memphis doesn't need to move Thabeet for another center. They already have two centers that need minutes, they need to move Thabeet for another position.

I'm just going off something I read around the trade deadline.  I do realize that Memphis has Gasol, but I could've sworn they were looking for a better defensive center. Although, I might have mixed up Sacremento with Memphis. If these type of trades were available do you guys think it's in the Celtics best intersets? I'm going to assume it's a no on the first one for Wdleehi.

I'd only move Perk if I were getting a lottery pick in return straight up, or a budding star.

Perkins has that much value in my opinion. He is a great weapon against Howard and Gasol, etc. If you want to beat ORL and LAL and get a title, your going to need a guy like Perkins.

Yeah ... completely agree with this ... no way they'd go for it, as they have no need in that area. (TP)

Agree....this soon-to-have-two-rings Celtic is being tossed out there a bit too casually in trade ideas....

  • Rondo = Good
The question with trading Perk is: was his play earlier in the season an anomaly?  Or has he simply been injured since the All-Star break and that is why he has regressed?

Pre-All-Star Break Perk was a potential building block.

Post-All-Star Break Perk is a very solid defensive role player, and nothing more.

We need the former as we move forward, not so much the latter.

For those of you that say Memphis doesn't have the need. Do you think that it's a good trade for the celtics or not? Perk is a good player, but not great. Like I said before 2 solid rookies, and a late lotto pick is a pretty good haul for a role playing center when your about to head into rebuilding mode.

Too Mr.October what do you mean by Lotto pick? Technically 1-14 is Lotto. Do you mean top 5?

Mayo or Gay 4 Perk

Perk is the 2nd best defensive bigman in the NBA. He is offensively challenged, but decent enough to give you 10-12 points a game. Unless if you're going to receive a legit 'proven' commodity you don't trade perk. Have any of you watched Hasheem Thabeet this year? The guy has been awful. 2nd round players are outplaying him. Chances are he remains a project for the next 2 season.

You always go for the upgrade or just keep Perk. Those are the only two players I'd trade Perk for. Unless if the Celtics are getting 'proven' players (Mayo or Rudy) then you don't make the trade at all. Lottery Picks means little to none at this point.

I loathe Thabeet, frankly, and I have no interest whatsoever in him. I see Mark Blount and Paddy O'Blount when I look at him.

Not interested in Thabeet at all.

No way Memphis gives up that much for their new back up Center.

Yeah I think people looking to trade Perk are vastly underrating his presence in the middle. Two years ago in the finals, the defensive player of the year was without Perk for a game when Perk hurt his shoulder (can't remember which game). Kg got exposed to some degree as he could not consistently guard the Lakers bigs without Perk.

My basketball philosophy is that to be a title contender, you have to have a banger and finesse big in you starting line up. The finesse big is for the weak-side shot blocking and the banger is for the low post defense. If you can find a big to complement Perk, he is an indispensable commodity.

Edit: And post all star Perk has been hurt (not injured) so his lack of offense if acceptable to me.
