???Andrew Toney was a one man show, a pure pull-up jump shooter, but not much else -- his game and Rondo's are not similar in any way, shape, or form--i just can't understand this conversation have any of you ever seen Andrew Toney play--he was more a 6'3" Nate Robinson than a Rondo--yea he was dangerous when he was hot, an instant offense guy but he did nothing for his teammates

Android (as Ainge coined of him) was a scoring machine. Rondo is so much more. Don't understand the comparison, except that each was kryptonite for another team (Toney to the Celtics, Rondo to the Cavs)?

I think the OP did a bad job in wording the point he was trying to get across.

IMO, he's not trying to compare Toney to Rondo as players. What he's trying to convey is that Toney in his prime was a player that Boston fans were just exasperated with and hated to see the C's have to play the Sixers knowing Toney was going to go off for one of his Andrew Toney type games. I hate using the word "afraid" or "feared" but the Celtics had no answers for him when he was playing liked he did many, mant times versus the Celtics.

Obviously the OP hated seeing the Sixers and Toney because Toney was SUCH a Celtic killer. I think what he is saying is that teams across the league, especially teams that now consider themselves rivals of the Celtics, must hate having to play the Celtics with Rondo, especially in the playoffs, because they now have that same feelings about Rondo that the OP had about Andrew Toney.

Having been a teenager during those Toney years, I can understand his POV.

Precisely! And also, his nicknames will be a list ... Cav's Killer, Magic Killer, Laker's Killer. I think you get the idea, Rondo's the face of fear for all of the Celtics' opponents.

No but very soon you will be able to call him the Magic Johnson of the Celtics. A better jumper and some fleet teammates is all he needs and its going to happen.

woah there.  let's not go nuts over one game.

Dunno. Bunch of guys here were saying Durant could be a rebounding superstar after one 19-rebound game in the playoffs.

To be around Magic's level, Rondo would need to get 21-8-12-2.5 (P/R/A/S). Rondo already has that many steals, and it's possible he can reach that number of assists (with a prime Kareem and Worthy he would) and points (if he gets a jumpshot). Plus the showtime Lakers played fast, boosting Magic's stats a bit.

Can't see him getting more than 6.5rpg though, it's impossible for Rondo to bring that much effort every night. His best is 5.2rpg,last season.

You are forgetting that Rondo would have to be 6 11 and be able to play all 5 positions on the court if asked to do so.

Rondo is Rondo. There has never been a guy in the NBA with his combination of skills.

Really? He seems like a shorter but faster/more athletic version of Jason Kidd. I know Kidd is SG-sized, but he was quite a poor jumper and not exceedingly strong, yet averaged 8 rebounds one year and 7 over 6 years. If Rondo applied himself, and played with big men who are bad at rebounding, he could come close to those numbers.

One other thing that Really Impressed me with Our PG is that in game 4 in Boston he actually posted someone up and backed them down! Once they were helpless in the paint he turned around and put his shot up!

I cannot remember who it was (Mo?) but I was Impressed. I hadn't seen him do that before.

He has broken out the entire arsenal this post-season.

NickAgneta - Great breakdown of the original Poster! I believe that is the point he was trying to get across.

And Titlemaster is so correct - even when I visit Silver Screen and Roll the one player that they state that they do not have an answer for is Rondo..
