I would be afraid to see the fine if that was Lebron at the line and no J.J. Hickson

Today, every little thing is fine or some other bs. Once, you could do that:

and not even been ejected from the game.

total foolishness.  he should be treated just like any other fan -- unless he does something that any other fan is prevented from doing, all's fair.

He's the GM of a team, he should absolutely be held to a higher standard.

$25000?! Alrighty then. Stern and Jackson must be laundering the money from the fines into an offshore account. That's the only explanation for some of these fines they are handing out. I wonder if he'll get a towel thrown in his face the next time he's in Boston?

On a semi-related note what happened to the idiot who threw the beer bottle on the court? Someone could have been seriously hurt. For sure Bavetta would have been killed if that had hit him.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Gotta love that $25G fines amount to a "slap on the wrist" in the world of major professional sports.

Such a bizarro world these guys live in.  Can you imagine getting fined $25,000 for a throwing a towel in the air?
Yup

What's next, fining a GM, coach, owner for having an affair? Or is that not so bad as throwing a towel in the air?

How about a fart?

I was watching Jim Rome today and, as much as I am not a big fan of his, he pointed out something interesting.

If they deem what Ainge did as "foolish", then what do they call the scripted and pre-meditated antics the Cavs display during introductions?

Now, I'm not saying they should fine the Cavs for this though.

I am with most of the people in this thread. The fine was foolish.

Don't worry Danny, we are not talking about this to take the focus off the series.

Celtics Nation simply cares.

perhaps when it comes to verbal attacks -- I wouldn't expect an NBA GM to scream at opposing players the way fans do but I think the towel incident is a big ado about nothing

All I can say is when I walk in those doors tomorrow night   they better be handing out white towels for us all to throw in the air every free throw the Cavs take...this is a joke

If they want to fine him for throwing it up in the air and catching it himself,  why not fine 30K to the idiot that threw the beer on the court,  that was conduct detrimental to the game, it disturbed the game and could have hurt someone, something a towel cant.

And I like the point Rome made about the Cavs pregame crap....thats detrimental to the game as well as all of those PA announcers/DJS  in ATL, Cle, and Det.   This league is a JOKE

Can Ainge make back that money in autographed towel sales before the next couple of home games?

Only if it is induced by tricking an opposing player to help him out by pulling his dislocated finger back into socket.
Yup

  • You know my methods, Watson.
David Stern should be fined heavily for suggesting that LeBron should stay in Cleveland...  Couldn't that be deemed a form of tampering?  And if you're LeBron's agent, wouldn't that put undue pressure on your client to make a decision based on a sense of pressure from the highest authority in the league?

...Just sayin'.
