in 2007 when the big 3 was formed rondo and perkins were just a kids but playing 3 years alongside KG,PP and Ray thet developed into all star and one of the best defensive centars. so my sugestion is to trade some bench players for a first rounder. sign Ray keep the big 3 in boston until they retire and bring young talent around them to develop. that way we will have slow rebuild and we can be in the playoffs every year. what do you think? can we trade Sheed,Nate for first rounder? or someone else? 19th pick plus another first rounder playing with the big 3 that is great if you ask me. instead waiting for 2012 for salary cap and for Durant who might sigh with us why not creating our own star like we did with rondo?

I think first round picks will be easier to come by this year because of teams worrying about draft pick cap holds messing up the amount of money they can give to free agents. Teams in that boat are Chicago, OKC(2 picks), possibly Clippers, and Miami. We won't be able to trade Nate for a first rounder and I doubt we could even give away Sheed at this point.

an extra 1st rounder via trade is probably not much of a possibility, certainly not for Sheed.

However there is another thread about buying a 1st rounder floating around in the forums getting some chatter every few days. And I think buying a first rounder is a great plan. The old guys are close enough to the end and need to play less minutes, so there should be time to play 2 young guys if they are any good.

I'm pretty confident that if Danny wants to buy a 1st rounder, and gets the green light to do it from Wyc and Co., we'll get one.

I agree.  Although I think looking at the way Perk and Rondo have developed, and expecting other young guys to develop the same way, if they are brought on with the Big 3, is asking too much.

Perkins had already had several years of development, where he was able to play through his mistakes on bad teams before KG and company got here.  That made a big difference for a very raw player coming out of highschool.  If he had come into the league with a winning team, it is easy to imagine they would not have had that kind of patience with him, and he never would have made it to where he is now.

Rondo was a special talent, who fell from being a projected top 5 pick before his last college season to being a pick in the 20's.  Yes, that could happen again, but you don't get guys like that very easily.

And then of course there is the fact that it is very tough to develop talent, and try to win at the same time.  It can be done, but it is very difficult.
