Here is what I have always thought Doc should've done with Rasheed from the very start....and what I would have done with Sheed.
the problem with Sheed is that he just wants to be another player out on the floor, the issue is; he is way to good to just be 'another player'. So since he's been in Boston he has been allowed to just be another player on the floor.
From the very start, he was allowed to drift around the 3pt. line,.....he was allowed to give less than 60% in the effort category.......he was allowed to do a host of other non-productive things, altogther,he was allowed to just be another player out on the floor.
WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN WITH SHEED, IS THIS....HERE'S THE SOLUTION:
The second Sheed checks into the game. the next 3 offensive possessions have to be, Sheed down on the block!
THats It! no matter what, automatically, nothing else is allowed to happen offensively, until Sheed takes 3 straight shots in the post.
If this were to happen, I guaranSHEED, that Sheed would actually become a factor, and would be engaged into the game, and would start caring, and would play with effort, and start playing defense, and start being a threat.
I dont understand how coaches have just ignored, or didnt notice, the fact the a player like sheed, you have to force-feed him the ball, even if he doesn't want it or doesn't accept it.
If sheed knew he was going to get the next 3 offensive possessions in the post, once he checked into the game, this is what would happen:
Sheed would post-up score all 3 times - get 6 points
Sheed would post up maybe get fouled,and-1 maybe more than 6pts
Sheed would start drawing dbl. teams, opening it up for others
and than
After the 3 post-ups, sheed would go back to the perimeter and drift, and being just another player out on the floor.
So essentially you are going to get more out of Rasheed in just those 3 possessions, than you would had you let him, just check into the game with no agenda for 20-25 mins.
Doc needs to force-feed Sheed whether he likes it or not. Make it a rule, that when sheed checks into the game, no other plays are allowed to be ran until Sheed gets 3 good post-ups, and something productive happens.
You have got to put the pressure on Sheed, the entire weight of the team on Sheed, in those 3 possessions, and once those 3 post ups are done, then Rasheed is allowed to roam, and drift as much as he wants.
