So let's say the Bulls, or another team like New Jersey or Washington, can get enough cap space to pay one max free agent and have enough to offer another max level talent free agent a big contract but not max level, say $13-15 million, does anyone else think they will be able to lure that second free agent at a reduced price?

The reason I ask is I saw a couple trade scenarios in the Deng/Hinrich thread that had the Bulls having enough to offer Wade or Bosh or LeBron a max level contract but not quite enough to offer a second max level contract to someone like Joe Johnson or one of the other guys mentioned above. Heck, even the Knicks, one of the teams people expect to be able to offer two max level contracts might not be able to if the salary cap is set at $51 million.

So what is everyone's opinion?

Will teams be able to convince 2 free agents to take lesser but possibly equal contracts to play with one another OR are players so greedy that they will look at taking less money, even if that money is 1 or 2 million dollars less a year, as to much of a slight or disservice to their union that they won't do it for the sake of having a better team mate?

For me, forget LeBron. He's such a prima donna and his professions of want to make the most money ever would never allow him to take less. I could see others willing to take lesser but equal contracts as their new team mates but not one getting the max and another taking $3-4 million less just to play with that player.

Funny that maybe the biggest obstacle of LeBron's in him ever playing with someone with as much talent as he has might be his own greed and ego because he wouldn't be willing to make less money to do so.

Of the three biggest names out there, I do not think any of them will take less than the max unless all three sign together in Miami for around $14.5 million each.

I can see these big fish getting less than the max:

Amare Stoudemire: $14 - Max
Joe Johnson: $13 - Max
Carlos Boozer: $13 - Max
Rudy Gay: $10 - $12
David Lee: $8 - $12
Ray Allen: $7 - $10

They need to break out the sign and trade.

Sign one FA for the max.   Sign and trade for the other, but the money going back to the other team does not have to be the MAX (I think Joe Johnson will be available for something like this)

I think the cap has been set already and it's higher then most expected.  Helping teams out like New York who can now definitely sign 2 max free agents.

Is this your own speculation or have you read this somewhere?

A link to this info would be nice.

It's just speculation but here's a link.

Commissioner David Stern said Friday that the league is projecting the salary cap to be higher than it expected, good news for teams looking to sign top stars during this summer's expected free agency bonanza.
The league is projecting the cap to come in at about $56.1 million, though the actual number won't be determined until early July, before teams can begin officially signing players.

I think it will definitely be higher then 53 million... which seems to be the number a lot of teams were operating under.

TP4U incoherent!!

Bringing some good stuff to the table. That's important news. That extra $2-4 million might make this point moot for some teams then. Others probably not. I do know that teams like New York and Miami and Chicago will be happy. Not coincidentally they are 3 of the top 5 television markets in the country.

Hmmmmm, I smell a David Stern cooked books conspiracy theory here!!!!

I think there are so many teams under the cap that it is very unlikely that we see one of the max type guys lower his asking price to play with another big name.

To me, 4 teams will be ahead of the pack when it comes to FA. The Bulls are about one big name away from contending, the Heat have DWade and a sweet destination, whatever team Lebron picks if it is one of the teams with room for 2 max guys, and the Thunder look one player away as well.

Also just read the Rockets will be greeting Bosh at 12:01 AM on July 1st with Yao and Hakeem next to Daryl Morey. Twitter will be insanity on July 1st. I'll be excited for it when our season comes to a conclusion. (in June  :P) This shows you that sign and trades are probably going to get a ton of mileage. The top players will want that 6th year and young assets/draft picks could be very key.
