The Bulls apparently want to go after two big time free agents, one with their cap space and one using Deng and Hinrich as trade fodder in a sign and trade (or just a trade).  I'm not sure they can really get a sign and trade of a big time player, but they are apparently on the block.

Any way we could sign and trade Ray for both?

That would be awesome if we could.

Don't want either of these guys at those contract levels.

And the Bulls don't want anything we have either. They're after Bosh, Lebron, Wade, etc.

Another option would be to trade Deng or Hinrich to a team under the cap (without taking salary back in return), and sign a second free agent outright.

I can see Minnesota getting in on something like that.

It'd be a smart move by Chicago.  I've mentioned it before but I don't really like Deng's fit on that team.

Build around Rose, Noah, and Gibson.

I don't understand why the Bulls didn't try to trade these guys during the season, they knew they weren't going anywhere in the playoffs.

Deng and Hinrich are tough players, I would love to get one or both of them.

It is too bad that we are strapped down financially and have no trade bait because Deng would be an amazing addition to this team. In fact, adding both Hinrich and Deng to our bench would be superb.

You want Deng's contract?

I say stick with what we have going. Ray will expire this summer, keep our number 19 pick, and look to buy an additional first rounder.

At this point, there's no sense in taking on long term salary unless it's attached to a long term building block.  Deng might qualify as that but I doubt we'd have what it takes to acquire him.

Regardless of whether we'd like Deng or not, why would Chicago deal him to us?

It only makes sense for Chicago to trade him in one of the following scenarios:

1) To a team with cap space / non-guaranteed contracts.  This would allow the Bulls to clear his contract, and have enough space to sign two max free agents; or

2) To a team that has a departing free agent, in a sign-and-trade.

The Celtics don't fit under either of the above scenarios, unless the Bulls for some odd reason want to give Ray Allen a big deal.  I think the Bulls may instead look to another team that has space / a departing free agent that otherwise might not be able to attract talent as good as Deng.  Teams in that category include Minnesota, New Jersey, and Toronto (in a Bosh sign-and-trade).

Well there were rumors around the deadline that they wanted to trade Ty Thomas and Hinrich for Ray and then sign him to an extension . They need 3 point shooting desperately . So if they can sign Bosh or Amare Stoudamire they would have scoring from the pg, sg(3pt shooting) and a low post game.

That could make sense for the C's if they could then sign mike miller for the MLE and have Hinrich and Deng coming off the bench

Chicago roster

Pg; Rose
SG Ray
SF: MLE
PF ; Bosh or Amare.
 C: Noah

Bos roster

PG: Rondo.   / Hinrich
SG: Miller.    / #19
SF: PP.          / Deng
PF: KG.         / BBD
C: Perk.       / anyone but sheed

I didn't hear that rumor.  I'd be pretty skeptical of it, since it doesn't make a lot of sense for Chicago.  Why give up the chance to sign a second near-max or max free agent for Ray?  I mean, Ray is a good (if aging) player, but what team would prefer him over, say, Joe Johnson?
