Although I know how Simmons is viewed on this blog, I found something he said to be interesting.  I was listening to the podcast and at the 48 minute mark, he says that a source has told him that the Lakers and the Raptors will swap Bosh for Bynum (Sign & Trade), and that it is a done deal (after the season).  If that is the case, how are the Celtics going to counteract that?  I don't really want to "keep up with the Jones', but in this case, I think we must.  This has the potential to be catastrophic for us if we go into rebuilding mode anytime in next 8 years!  Below is the link if posted correctly.

I don't think the C's need to counteract anything.  You don't build a team in competition with another team, you try to fill your holes the best you can to win.

I also don't know how good of a move this is for the Lakers.  Bynam, although oft injured, brings a certain level of physicality to this team.  Gives them a 7ft presence inside on defense and a real post player on offense.

Bosh & Gasol are both talented but their skill sets are similar.  Neither mix it up in the paint, neither are real defensive presences, both don't play well against more physical bigs.

I think it makes the Lakers a more formidable offensive opponent and more difficult to defend.  But on the same note it makes them very soft in the middle.  If the C's and Lakers were to make the finals next year, IMO the C's could exploit that weakness as the one thing we do have is a physical presence inside.

Simmons track record here is ... mediocre.

Anyways - I think that's a silly move for LAL and a good move for TOR. Bosh is SOFT IMO. Lack of D, injuries, doesn't go into the post. On the other hand Bosh did just drop a lead leading 25 PER this season.

I guess they play Gasol @ C, Bosh @ PF and bring Odom off the bench... I dunno. Hard for me to see this making the team that much better, not because Bosh isn't an upgrade (he is) I just don't see it as a good team move. LAL should be focused on getting a good Guard to shore up the rotation - Fisher needs to be a bench player.

I think this makes TOR better, a front line of Bosh, Barg, and Turk was too soft.

If you listen to the Podcast even Simmons doesn't buy this rumor. It was him and Marc Stein throwing out all the crazy rumors they've heard.

Hmm...  Simmons' sources also said that there were staples in KG's knee.

I'm confused. It sounds like you want to hit the panic button just because Andrew Bynum, a guy who's never played a full season, MIGHT get dealt to the Raps?

Andrew Bynum is not to be feared, especially coupled with the likes of the following:

Hedo Turkaglu - this guy doesn't care about winning. He's in Toronto to have a great time and make $63Million.

Jose Calderon - easily the most overrated PG in the league. I'd have an amazing assist:turnover ratio as well if I just dribbled the ball for 22 seconds and dealt it to Bosh for a bail-out 15-foot jumper. Oh and he's the worst defender amongst starting PG's in the league.

Andrea Bargnani - a 7-footer who doesn't care about rebounding and has 0 passion for the game. He's like Dirk but with a worse stroke, no intensity, and terrible finish around the basket.

Did I mention how Jose ($9M) and Andrea ($10M) are extremely overpaid?

Anyways, take it from a guy who lives in Toronto and considers the Raptors to be his 2nd favorite NBA team (we didn't get an nba team until 1995 and I liked the C's prior to '95 to I'm loyal to my original team the C's).

Hmm...  Simmons' sources also said that there were staples in KG's knee.
He also declared in his Podcast with Matthew Barry this morning that he was one of the top 100 knowledgeable and objective basketball commentators. This is when he was bemoaning he doesn't get a vote in the NBA awards. Then took a shot a someone who misses Cowens diving for loose balls (Bob Ryan?)

 ::)

I really enjoy his writing and podcasts but he's letting his ego fly recently.

That Laker team would be very scary.

The guy at the deli at the Star near me said that Lebron to the Celtics in a sign and trade for Perk is a done deal after the playoffs. ::)

Really? I agree that Bosh is a better player than Bynum, but given the duplication of Bosh and Gasol, they'd have quite a bit more holes than they have now.

Lakers problem right now isn't a lack of superstars. It's Kobe.

So if they had Bosh and Gasol on the floor at once, would their front line have a total of one pound of muscle?

Honestly, this is kind of good news IMO.  If Bosh goes to the Lakers, that means he cannot end up with Wade of Lebron.

It has looked to me that Kobe is on the downside of his career.  He has looked like he has lost something in the playoffs this year, and I think the amazing amount of minutes he has played has started to catch up with him, the same way they have caught up with KG.

Yeah, he is still one of the best in the league, but I see him declining over the next few years, while Wade, and certainly Lebron will still be getting better.

Not to mention, he would be going into the Western conference, which doesn't hurt the C's as much as if, say, Lebron and Bosh hooked up in NY or Miami.

Obviously, it sucks to see the Lakers get better, but as a Celtics fan, I prefer that over having a super power in the East.
