Good to see that Celtics fans still underrate Gasol. ;)

I don't underrate Gasol. I think he's their most valuable player.

But he wouldn't work with Bosh.

Why not?  Gasol has played very well in the past next to Odom, and Bosh is a significantly better player, but a similar style.

As long as the put a big, strong guy on their bench, those two will work fine.

How many teams can match up against both those players?

Whats people's beef with Simmons? I think the guy is great. His book "The Book of Basketball" Is a brilliant read.

With that, Bosh doesnt really scare me all that much. Neither does Bynum for that matter. I think Bosh is a better player but Bynum fits better for the Lakers. So let the Lakers take Bosh in a desperation move to make them, well, not as good. And I dont mind the Raptors taking Bynum, cause well, they wont be as good anymore either. It really would make each team worse than better...

I agree with this. The trade makes both teams worse. The only person it helps is Bynum, as he would finally get the chance to develop as the main guy and see if he can live up to his potential, and eventually earn a big enough contract that would force the raptors to trade him too.

Eh, big deal if the Lakers get Bosh. Kobe (who is declining) and Gasol are the 2 guys to worry about on that team. And with them taking the majority of shots, Bosh would become less effective. Plus the Lakers need someone who's going to supply the beef, clog the middle and bang. Bynum is that guy.

In the end I think what they loose on size they gain in speed. What they loose on defense they gain on offense. Its a wash.

What would they have lost defensively?  Isn't it Bynums defense that most frustrates the Lakers?

And, we have had a front row seat to how three elite offensive players can combine and be more effective, even as each shoots less then that had when by themselves.

This rumour has been floating for months. Where's smoke...

I would be worry if this happens. Imagine a Big 3 of Kobe, Bosh and Gasol.      :-[

2/3 of that big 3 play the same position. AND neither of them can cover our 80%KG

I say this is totally bogus. Like Bosh cares enough about Toronto to work out a sign and trade with them when he could just play in OKC next to Durant, Westbrook, and their overabundance of young rising talent. I call it now and have been saying this to friends and family for months: Bosh ends up with the Thunder.

Uhh I think you're forgetting something crucial in your argument.  Raptors have Bosh's Bird rights.  Therefore he would get paid more by doing a sign & trade than leaving purely as a free agent.  So it has nothing to do with his concern for the Toronto organization (although by all accounts he has loved playing there).  It's actually about the financial incentive.

They complain because Bynum can be better. He has all the physical tools. However his length and size when paired with Gasol close down the interior mostly effectively. And then when it comes to matching up with other teams that have lumber: Howard, Shaq, Perkins, etc., Bynum is their best guy. Gasol is too finesse.

Kobe doesn't believe in less.  ;D

..and if one thought Bynum defense is a worry, Bosh is going to be worse.

That's a good point. The Lakers don't necessarily require a beefy guy in the middle, especially since Gasol is such a good rebounder. (The numbers say Bosh is too, but I bet that has to do more with his playing with centers like Bargnani.)

But that raises an interesting point. Could the Lakers have Gasol, Bosh, and Odom on the floor at the same time? Yeah, but then they'd have to sit Artest, or have Kobe play the point. Is Odom then going to guard the 3s? As a Celtic fan, I would love to have him try to guard our 3, and I'm sure Cavs and Spurs and fans of other teams feel the same way.

In other words, it's maybe not such a bad plan to have Gasol and Bosh starting together, but it really would throw their rotations off, particularly their end-of-game lineups. When you want to have your best players on the floor, they'd have a really tough time doing that.

If the Lakers make this trade, it would be with a clear eye on the future.  The next season or two, it doesn't improve them that much.  However Kobe cannot play forever.  By what other means could LA acquire a star player to be the face of their franchise for the next generation?  Trading Bynum is the only.  And Toronto is a perfect trading partner because they are about to lose Bosh for nothing. So they have every incentive to do the S&T.

This would be a major coup for LA if it happens.  They would have a star to start building around for when Gasol, Artest, Odom and Kobe are gone.

Unfortunately we do not have a similar option.  We did have Ray's expiring contract, but Danny couldn't find the right deal by the deadline.  That was our only real chance to add another star player for the foreseeable future.  So unless Danny gets super lucky with a late-round draft pick, our team will be built around Rondo, and LA would be built around Bosh.  Hmmmmm, which sounds like a brighter future?

Not getting value for Ray this year is going to look like a huge mistake in a year or two when Rondo, Perk and Baby are our nucleus.

Funny thing about that.

Gasol's defensive per is better then Bynum at the C position.

And Bosh's defensive per is 4 points  better then Gasol at the PF position (on a terrible defensive team)

So, it could be said there is a good chance the defense will improve.

they were throwing out unsubstantiated rumors.

First one mentioned was that the Knicks would trade Eddie Curry for Baron Davis in an attempt to lure LeBron.

Next Stein mentioned that he heard whispers the Knicks and Raptors would sign and trade David Lee for Chris Bosh.

Then Simmons said he heard Bosh for Bynum was going to happen this summer and that it was practically a done deal.

Not a big deal.  If the Lakers win the title this year, I'm sure they'll keep Bynum.

Haven't we learned yet not to take Simmons seriously?
