Try to answer this honestly and with no bias please. Who is the better point guard in the NBA right now? Deron Williams or Rajon Rondo? Which PG would you rather have? And would you guys have won the championship in 2008 if you had Deron Willimams at the point instead of Rajon Rondo?

Thank you.

Deron Williams, by far, he has a better all around game and he can shoot the ball.

PS : welcome on the blog fellow Laker fan. :P

Deron Williams for sure.

Rondo is fantastic though.  One of the best point guards in the game.  Deron and CP are on another level though.

Not sure you're gonna get no bias coming on a Celtics board and asking that question but good luck. ::)

Also, is this based on a pure talent standpoint or are salaries, etc. included?

  • Rondo = Good
Not even close.  As much as I love Rondo, D-Will is bigger, stronger, and can actually shoot the ball.  He's also perhaps even a better passer than Rondo.  Rondo's only advantages are his speed and his defense, and they aren't overwhelming ones by any means.

So far, we've seen a lot of Derons, so I think unbiased is absolutely possible.

I'm gonna go with Dwill as well, but with the side note that I wouldn't trade Rondo for him because I think Rondo not only fits us very well; he also is more fun to watch, imo. Rondo can be big if he keeps himself surrounded by greats. Williams will actually stand out amongst scrubs though, and is able to carry them better (imo.)

I think Rondo is more of a passing-focused version of D.Rose.

Yes, Deron Williams is better, the C's would have probably swept LA in 2008 with him, and I would trade for him in a heartbeat.

However Rondo is getting better year by year, is a joy to watch play, and bit by bit is becoming interwoven into the team's history. The more interwoven he is in the team's history, the less likely he will ever be traded.

I'd love him to be our new Cap in a bunch of years.

Whoah. It's amazing how worse teammates at every position and a year of injury problems can cloud memories of CP3. Let's not confuse success in a team game with how good an individual is.

Yeah, Deron.  I like Rajon, but Deron has a better all-around offensive game.

Chris Paul is/was amazing no doubt. I for one have been in the Williams camp since the first time I saw him play. The guy was created in an ideal point guard lab. He has the size, offense (driving, mid range, long range), defense, passing, can carry a team on offense, and can make an impact without dominating the ball.

Paul is smaller, more exciting, and more ball dominant - yet still clearly the second best PG in the NBA in my mind.

I'd take Williams although the contract side of things made me at least think about it.

and yet somehow, when healthy, despite the size advantages, etc. that williams has, paul put up better numbers, was regarded as a better defender, and made the playoffs with a far worse roster than Williams has ever had.
