either that or how to eat.

geez...he really has porked up quite a bit.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I would have to say no freakin' way to Larry Brown, even if he might very well be the best basketball coach alive, he is way, way too much of a...what's the word...we just don't need a coach that puts his own interests above the team's, like, for example, twice openly discussing other jobs while under contract with a franchise while he's in the middle of a playoff series.

I think Rick Carlyle gets another year.

I also think that former interim coach after Obie is still on the payroll for the C's in some scouting capacity or whatever.  So there is still some loyalty.

I would actually LOVE Kevin McHale as a coach.  As a coach, he did well in Minny, I thought.  He understands the game very well, and explains it well, too (I enjoy his breakdowns on NBATV).  He "gets" champion level play, and also "gets" developing young players.  I could imagine him saying something like, "If you can't play a young prospect a few minutes a game and still make the playoffs as a high seed, you're not really a contender anyway."  He has that kind of practical thinking.

Prediction:  Doc rides out the big 3 years, then McHale becomes the perfect coach for the C's to keep fans' attention just in case the team has to "rebuild" for a year or two, with Austin Ainge as lead assistant.

All in the family...

How about to try to bring Larry back? It's a long shot, but I liked his Pacers team during the three years he coached.

He seems pretty committed to the Pacers GM job.  I have a sneaking suspicion he feels more kinship to the state of Indiana than the city of Boston at this point.

Kevin McHale is an intriguing idea, though to be honest I never watched the Wolves when he coached them so I don't have much insight on whether he's a good coach or not.  I know he was a pretty terrible GM, though.

McHale's actually a good coach. Potentially a very good one.

I doubt Danny would hire him and I'm not sure McHale wants to do all that time on the road.

FWIW, Danny was on WEEI today and said he thought Doc would be back. I think he's genuine in his assessment.

By the way, did you know Doc asked they not extend his contract early this year (when things were going well) because he didn't want a contract extension when some of the players might not have one. Whatever you think of him as a coach, the guy is an excellent human being.

Of course he is.  Doc's the man.  He's restored quite a bit of my faith in him the last couple of weeks.  Hopefully he can continue to do so over the next few.

McHale might be lured to coach here for the chance to coach KG again

Another good point about McHale. You and I have to be careful. We're agreeing with each other way too much tonight  :)

Established coaches

JVG
Larry Brown.

I think both could get the most out of the Celtics team out there now.

If it is a new head coach, I want one that is an NBA assistant or having NBA assistant experience.  I do not want to see a former player with no NBA coaching experience.

Therefor,
Thib could work
Ewing should be interviewed.

It's gotta be an established coach with this team.

With any new coach there is going to period of time before the players buy into what he is selling -- if they do at all.  Someone like Larry Brown or JVG, all they have to do is show their track record and boom.....they buy in.

I'd be down for Larry Bird to coach, but he's not gonna leave the Pacers.  I think Bird was a great coach and I've recently read some articles that claimed he was one of the best.    I actually think McHale seemed to be good as well.  It's tough to really judge when the guy was stuck coaching such a crappy team.

I'll just make a wild guess that we get embarrassed by the Cavs, blow up the team in the offseason and decide to build around Rondo.  Meanwhile, I'm going with the Simmons wild guess that Ray Allen, Bosh and LeBron will all join forces in NY and that Phil Jackson will jump ship to coach the Knicks... leaving Mike D'Antoni out of the job... and a solid coach for the all offense fast breaking Rondo Celtics that will win 35-42 games.

oooo I like that.  He only coached 3 years and Im pretty sure he mad the ECF 2 of those years.  The 3rd years was a lockout I believe.

But anyway hes got an impressive, but short, coaching career.  He won't leave Indiana.....But that would be awesome.
